  • Taylor Lautner to Star in Toy-Based Stretch Armstrong Feature

Taylor LautnerThere must be something about actor Taylor Lautner that makes studios want to "play" with him because the Twilight and New Moon star is now attached to headline two movies based on popular toys. Back in December, Lautner was announced as the lead in Paramount's adaptation of Mattel's Max Steel toy line about a teenaged extreme sports athlete who is granted superpowers by becoming infected by nanomachines. Now, Lautner has been revealed as the star of Universal's adaptation of Hasbro's Stretch Armstrong toy line.

Originally planned for an April 2011 release, Universal announced that Stretch Armstrong would be pushed back to March 2012 so that the movie can be shot in 3-D. In a statement released by Universal, co-chief Donna Langley cited Lautner's global bankability as a major factor in his selection for the role.

In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office. He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power.

Academy Award–winner Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind) is producing Stretch Armstrong with Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennet Schneir from a script by Steve Oedekerk (Evan Almighty). In a statement issued back in June 2009, Grazer expressed his enthusiasm for the project, but only hinted at what the plot might entail.

Stretch Armstrong is a character I have wanted to see on screen for a long time. He's an unconventional kind of super hero with a power that no one would want. It's a story about a guy stretching — if you will — the limits of what is possible to become all that he can be.

Friday's Universal announcement also included a release date for director Jon Favreau's Cowboys and Aliens of July 29, 2011.

  • David Slade Says Eclipse Trailer Is "Out of My Hands"

The Twilight Saga: EclipseFans are anxious to get a peek at the first trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and director David Slade would be only too happy to offer it up ... except it's not in his control. The latest update on the Eclipse trailer came today via Slade's twitter page:

So just to clear this up, the Trailer is out of my hands, I would love to release one but its down to Summit. I don't know when.

We can only guess that Slade's comment relates to these previous two tweets:

    December 30, 2009: Planning New Year's gift....
January 13, 2010: New Year's gift was cancelled. Out of my hands unfortunately. I tried. On another note our edit is driving towards the finish line...

If we were betting people, we'd put odds on a fan-driven petition appearing within the week.

  • The Latest Spider-Man 4 Director and Story Rumors

Spider-Man Reboot Spider-Man 4 speculation also has been swirling around regarding the replacement for Sam Raimi. Besides James Cameron (who clearly said no thanks), (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb has also been rumored for the job. And it's not just because his last name would be replete with irony. When interviewed at the Golden Globes by MTV, Webb admitted he's a fan of the webslinger.

Stan Lee, big fan ... love the Ultimate [Spider-Man] stuff. How could you not be a fan of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?

Of all the Spider-Man comics series to mention, Ultimate Spider-Man is a curious choice, considering the series concerned Parker's high school life in a what was a reboot of Parker's origin story.

With the dust settling from the Raimi and Sony divorce, questions remain over why Spider-Man 4 had to be canceled in the first place. Reports claim Raimi's recent fascination with the special effects of Avatar as a reason, since it would have added to the pre-production time on the project and Sony is desperate for the box-office hit that Spider-Man could provide, but there was also the fight over the script. According to NY Mag, Sony did not care for Raimi's Spider-Man 4 story, which centered on the aging villain The Vulture.

Peter Parker gets over MJ, finds a new girl, falls in love. But: Peter also discovers her father is actually the Vulture, a naughty green guy with wings to be played by John Malkovich. Peter is torn between the love of his new lady and taking down the Vulture. Being a Spandex tight-ass, he decides to take down the Vulture, and kills him. This patricide goes down poorly with Peter's new fiancée, and she rejects him. Despondent, Peter decides to abandon his superpowers, and Movie No. 4 ends with Peter Parker throwing away his Spider-Man mask, and audiences wondering if they are watching Superman II.

With so many rumors flying around, it's hard to know what to think. Perhaps, eventually, the truth will be revealed.

  • Taylor Lautner's the Latest Twilight Actor Rumored for the Spider-Man Reboot

Spider Man 4Sam Rami is out and Tobey Maguire is out and the whole Spider-Man franchise is getting a reboot. So, it's no surprise that rumors are swirling about who might be picked to play Peter Parker in the new Spider-Man.

A whole lot of the buzz has been suggesting that ultra-hot Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson might be up for the part. But IESB ran down those rumors and is now saying "with absolute certainty" that Pattinson is not in the running. Besides, the reboot is expected to take our hero back to high school, and at 23 Pattinson is viewed as a bit "too old" for that role.

A much stronger possibility is fellow Twilight actor Taylor Lautner. At 17, he is the right age, and he certainly is buff enough for the role. Better still, IESB reports that he has, in fact, had a meeting with Spider-Man producers. The problem, of course, is that we have absolutely no idea what they were talking about. There are other roles he could play, and with a number of potential sequels in mind, there is good reason for thinking that the studio might instead want to cast a relative unknown in the role.

As for out-of-work Spider-Man Maguire, reports keep circulating that he has been tapped to put some hair on his toes and play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. However, The One Ring, the definitive source on all things hobbit, has checked with its sources and now says there is absolutely "no truth" to those rumors.

  • New Moon Fan Reviews

New Moon movie reviewsCritic reviews for the second Twilight Saga movie have run the gamut. However, when it comes to die-hard fans, the decision to see New Moon was made weeks ago. Entertainment Weekly reports that the movie is breaking pre-sales records and that Fandango has sold out several thousand New Moon showtimes.

But what will Twilight fans think of the movie? Will it be worth the wait? For a good indication, we looked to an early review posted on the fansite Novel Novice Twilight. Here's a recap of what their reviewer had to say:

Okay, I'm just going to say it. The Twilight Saga: New Moon is not a perfect movie. Critics — the really nasty ones — are going to nitpick and tear it to shreds. Which is really a shame, because while it is not a perfect movie — it's a wonderfully enjoyable movie. (For this fan, at least.) I’ll be honest, New Moon is my least favorite of the books — but I felt a new sense of appreciation for it while watching it unfold on the big screen.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon is also a huge step-up from Twilight, in many ways. The overall scope and feel of the entire movie is both bigger and better.... And oddly enough — it actually felt to me like there was more romance between Bella and Edward in New Moon than there was in the first movie.... Can I also just say thank you to the folks who injected New Moon with all the action scenes?

For more fan reviews, come back tomorrow for our First Fans segment. And let us know what you think of the New Moon by posting a comment on the movie page.

  • Tracking New Moon's Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner

New MoonWith the New Moon premiere out of the way, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner are making the promotional rounds before the movie's opening weekend. Given the record number of ticket sales at this point, their appearances are, in all practicality, more of a gift to the fans than a necessary marketing push.

Tonight, Pattinson will be on Late Show with David Letterman, and as you can imagine, hoards of fans and photographers flooded the streets outside the studio to see him arrive. You can see a gallery of shots at Gossip Center. After Letterman, fans can switch the channel to catch Stewart on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

And for anyone who missed Lautner's appearance on The Jay Leno Show earlier in the week, you can see it below. The clips include footage of his appearance on the Mickey Mouse Show years ago, tales of one passionate Twilight Mom at a recent signing, and a new, exclusive New Moon scene.

  • Jackson Rathbone Talks New Moon and Taylor Lautner

Jackson RathboneJackson Rathbone, the actor behind The Twilight Saga's Jasper, spoke to MTV about the upcoming New Moon movie and Taylor Lautner's performance as teen werewolf Jacob.

On the subject of his fan-friendly co-star, Rathbone had nothing but good things to say.

Taylor Lautner really stands out in this film, and I think people are going to be really blown away by his performance. You have these great moments that Jacob just completely is winning over Bella. And it's just beautiful to see it. It's all in their eyes.

He also couldn't help mentioning Lautner's new physique, which has been a huge hit with his hordes of female fans.

Nikki Reed keeps telling everybody, and I think it's true, yeah, Lautner's got his shirt off, and he looks good with his shirt off, but you look at those eyes. You really do.

Whatever Lautner's secret is, he's certainly proved to the Summit camp that they made the right decision keeping him as Jacob. For a 17-year-old, he's got commitment on his side — and a cast and crew that are all firmly on Team Taylor.

  • First New Moon TV Spot Released

The first TV spot for The Twilight Saga: New Moon was released on Fandango yesterday, and is aptly titled "Event."

The 32-second clip shows new footage of the wolves, as well as a new face-off between Edward, Jacob, and Bella that wasn't included in the book. As always, the script has been tweaked to include more action, and we think it looks better for it. As Bella screams, "No please, Jake, don't!", we bet every Twilighter watching the clip fell into rapt love-triangle-drama induced silence.

Robert Pattinson (Edward), Kristen Stewart (Bella), and Taylor Lautner (Jacob) look more comfortable in their roles, while Edi Gathegi (Laurent) and Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) look super cool running through the woods at break-neck speed.

What do you think of this latest offering from New Moon? Are you now counting down the days until November 20th? Let us know in the comments.

  • Taylor Lautner on The Twilight Saga

Bella and Jacob cozy up in New MoonTwilight Saga heartthrob Taylor Lautner caught up with BoxOffice.com to talk about all things Twilight. When asked what he likes about playing werewolf Jacob Black, the 17-year-old said:

I love Jacob and Bella's relationship. It's very different from Edward and Bella's. Jacob and Bella start off as really good friends. They become best friends — they can tell each other anything, they do whatever together, ride motorcycles. I love that.

And when asked what will draw a young male audience to the movie, he said:

There's a lot more action than Twilight. It's more exciting — it has werewolves and vampires, which creates fights because they don't get along. Not only does the action step up, but the whole story line does as well. Now there's a third person involved.

No one can fault Lautner's unwavering enthusiasm for his role as Jacob Black — he really does seem to love it. It's a good thing director Chris Weitz didn't replace him with an older, taller actor, or all hell would've broken loose.

  • 77 New New Moon Images Now Online

Bella & EdwardFilmofilia.com has posted 77 new New Moon images, all taken from the New Moon Official Illustrated Movie Companion, which hits shelves tomorrow.

Now's your chance to see Edward kissing his beloved Bella, the Volturi, Carlisle in the 1800s, many half-naked werewolves, and Robert Pattinson wearing a very nice coat.

We're glad to see that Pattinson's hair has been successfuly Edward-i-fied, and that Kristen Stewart still makes Bella look like a dull, run-of-the-mill high school student. Really, has the costume department forgotten that the character likes to wear a bit of color every now and then? We're wondering how Elizabeth Reaser's Esme has managed to transform herself so successfully, considering her appearance should, in vampire lore, stay exactly as it was in Twilight. And as for Jackson Rathbone's strange stance and facial expression, we're just going to gloss over that one and pretend it doesn't exist.

On the plus side, the Volturi look mean and menacing, and Taylor Lautner looks set to score a legion of female fans. New Moon is definitely well on its way to being the biggest movie of the year, and with no box-office competition to worry about in November, we think it'll dominate theater screens for much longer than Twilight did.

  • Chris Weitz and Taylor Lautner Talk New Moon

The Twilight Saga's New Moon Poster ReleasedEmpire magazine talked to director Chris Weitz and actor Taylor Lautner about what fans can expect from the New Moon movie.

When asked about the movie, Weitz said:

There's more fighting and that should appeal to the boys. There is also a male character, Jacob, who is inherently a more viable character for most boys because he's like an ordinary guy. He works on cars, whereas Edward is a perfect man, and maybe he only appeals to perfect men. That makes the demographic rather small! So there's more of a way into this one -- we do hope to up the male demographic!"

Hunky young Lautner also chipped in with his thoughts on the bad boy werewolf Jacob Black:

In Twlight, Jacob is this happy-go-lucky kid, but in New Moon when he shapeshifts into his wolf self, he becomes a totally different person. It was almost a split personality in the same movie and sometimes even in the same day.

More fighting? More male appeal? Count us in. It sounds like Summit and their team are better prepared this time around and are keen to include the many boyfriends and husbands who will be forced to watch the movie over and over again. It's a clever move on behalf of the franchise -- hook the male population, and world domination won't be far away.

  • Three New New Moon Posters Released

Bella and the CullensSummit Entertainment has finally released three new promotional posters for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, in what is surely only the beginning of a mass promotional campaign for the highly anticipated vampire movie.

The new images feature three separate groups: Bella and the Cullens, Jacob and the wolves, and the Volturi. We're not sure why Robert Pattinson has a square head, or why Kristen Stewart looks like a catwalk model, but these promotional images are certainly better than Twilight's Photoshopped monstrosities.

  • Exclusive Look at New Moon's Quileute Nation

Taylor Lautner as Quileute member Jacob BlackEver since Stephenie Meyer introduced the Quileute Nation to the world with her Twilight Saga, legions of fans have become interested in the Nation and its legend of a tribe descended from wolves. And while the Quileute have welcomed most fans to La Push, the Nation hasn't granted the media access to gather footage and imagery within the tribal lands.

That's why we're so honored and excited that ReelzChannel was allowed to capture the Nation's rich heritage and cultural traditions during a recent visit. Here's what Quileute spokesperson Jackie Jacobs had to say:

It was very important to this Nation to partner with an organization that we felt understood that the non-fictional Quileute story is more complex, multi-dimensional, and sacred than [the one] everyone has been exposed to. We have been inundated with requests from various outlets to tell the story but felt that ReelzChannel embodied the authentic direction we wanted to explore while keeping it fun and interesting for the fans.

Our portrait of the Quileute Nation premieres on the next episode of Twilight Weekly: Spotlight, Monday, September 28th at 10 PM ET / 7 PM PT. Along with an exclusive look at the locations re-created for the movie, the show includes interviews with tribal elder and storyteller Chris Morganroth III and Roy Black, known to the tribe as "Jacob’s Grandfather." • Tons of Behind-the-Scenes Images from New Moon

Robert PattinsonThe LA Times has released 41 behind-the-scenes images from the set of New Moon. As with its Twilight gallery from last year, these are also exclusive, never-before-seen images, and they show the actors against a green screen backdrop.

Included in the set are the obligatory topless Taylor Lautner pictures, which are sure to excite his legions of teenage fans. Robert Pattinson looks moody and haunted as Edward Cullen, and the less said about Kristen Stewart's awkward acting the better.

What do you think, Twilighters? Are you happy with how pale Edward is, or how buff Jacob is looking? In the grand scheme of things, would anyone really choose a bloodless vampire over a hunky werewolf? We're not so sure.

  • Latest New Moon Trailer Premieres at MTV Video Music Awards, Now Online

New MoonIn case there were any doubts the second movie in The Twilight Saga would play a big role in tonight's MTV Video Music Awards, Ashley Greene (Alice) quickly erased them by serving as the red carpet fashion correspondent. There she had the opportunity to interview Taylor Lautner, who told her he hadn't seen the latest New Moon trailer and was just as excited as the fans to see it.

Inside the theater, the Twilight torch was passed to Lautner, who helped present the first award — putting him center stage for Kanye West's ill-conceived attempt to steal the spotlight from Taylor Swift. Then, a good hour into the show, came the moment the fandom was waiting for: The return of Lautner with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and the third, "extended" New Moon trailer.

  • Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner Talk New Moon

The Twilight Saga's New Moon Poster ReleasedIn an exclusive interview with MTV, New Moon stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner talk about filming the second installment in the franchise, and the many relationships in the movie.

On a particularly emotional Jacob-Bella scene, Stewart had this to say:

Just like everything in our movie, it's such a heightened version of reality. It's like, people don't just break up [in the "Twilight" films] — they break up and it literally kills you. It's not like you just say, "Oh, I'm really depressed and crying." Everything is supposed to be a fantasy version of that. So I always had a really hard time figuring out, "Am I doing enough? Do I look like I'm going to die?"

    Lautner added:

"New Moon" is very complicated. There's a lot of heartbreak, there's a lot of things going on. Edward leaves at the beginning, she goes into this depression, I come to try and bring her out of it. Then I go through my own issues, and then she leaves me. It's all over the place, and there's a lot going on.

We're all hoping that KStew's acting improves in New Moon, because she really has to nail the i'm-too-depressed-to-live scenes — after all, The Twilight Saga is all about angst and melodrama. If Stewart doesn't pull it off, the whole movie's success will probably end up riding on Taylor Lautner and his popularity with the teenage ladies. What do you think, Twilighters? Are they up to the task?

When asked about the possibility of her character returning in a Breaking Dawn movie, she said "I don't know much about Breaking Dawn at all at this point. Right now they're just focused on filming Eclipse. I hope they'll bring Gianna back, but who knows?"

  • More Eclipse Cast Additions, Julia Jones and BooBoo Stewart

Julia JonesJulia Jones and BooBoo Stewart are the latest casting additions to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and will be playing the roles of brother and sister team Leah and Seth Clearwater.

The 28-year-old Jones was last seen in four 2008 episodes of ER, after starring in the movies Hell Ride and The Reckoning. Stewart is a 15-year-old Californian, with a varied acting resume that includes the TV shows Dante's Cove and Everybody Hates Chris. Both actors look like they could easily be part of the Quileute Indian Tribe, and should fit in nicely with Taylor Lautner and Co.

Jodelle Ferland has also been officially announced for the role of vampire Bree, after much fan speculation about which part she would play. What do you think of the new castings? I definitely think it looks like New Moon is going to be better than Twilight, even though it is my least favorite book of the series. It comes across as being much richer visually. It also seems as though they really tried to stick to the books as much as they could."

But the Taylor Lautner narration didn't play as well. "I know they are pushing Taylor to the forefront so much because he is a big part of New Moon," says Kim at cullenboysanonymous.com, "but I would have rather just had a traditional trailer. Plus to be honest, New Moon to me is all about Edward. Why Edward left Bella, what was he thinking, what did he do while he was gone, etc." Michelle at BellaAndEdward.com also wasn't a fan of the interview approach: "As for the narration, I thought it distracted from the feel of the trailer. I can't even consider it a real 'trailer' because it has those little interview snippets with Taylor every 10 seconds."

In total, we posed five questions to some of our favorite Twilight fansites, including "What 'scene' were you happiest to see?" and "Was there anything that made you leery about the adaptation?" How did they respond? See The Latest New Moon Trailer: What the Fansites Really Think.

  • New Moon Trailer Leaked Online

The new New Moon trailer, currently showing in theaters before Summit production Bandslam, has been leaked online.

The new scenes are interspersed with Taylor Lautner talking about the movie, and include Bella falling off her motorbike, a very buff looking Jacob, and the first glimpses of the wolfpack and the Volturi. Surprisingly, Robert Pattinson is nowhere to be seen — bar one or two quick blink-and-you'll-miss-him moments — and seems to have passed the leading man torch to Lautner. We're still trying to figure out why Jacob and Bella look to be getting in on some steamy lip-lock action — has Summit mixed up Meyer's books? Check out the new footage below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

  • Chris Weitz on New Moon, Meyer and Lautner's Return

Chris WeitzCurrently busy editing New Moon for a November release, director Chris Weitz still had time to talk to MTV about teen wolf Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning's chilling performance as vampire Jane, and the lack of a Stephenie Meyer cameo.

On the topic of Lautner's much discussed return to the movie, he offered the following anecdote:

When I first met with him, I took off my shirt and I said, "You've got two months to look this good." And he said, "I'm willing to try that." Finally, he came back, and the results were just about as good as my abs. To me, it wasn't a very difficult decision. For Taylor, it wasn't difficult at all. He knew the character, and he embodied the character — as people are going to see in the movie. So it wasn't really as tense and as scary a moment as it was portrayed in the media.

    The Twilight Saga's New Moon

When asked about the absence of a Stephenie Meyer cameo, he indicated the author may have been short on time:

If she had asked, I would have definitely put her in. But I think that she may have decided against experiencing that again, because frankly, to be an extra in a movie or a day player is a lot of sitting around. People don't realize the sheer tedium that a movie set embodies; she was probably like, "Well, I'll sit this one out."

So, Twilighters, was a Meyer cameo at the top of your list of must-see New Moon scenes, or was her brief Twilight appearance enough for one franchise? If Stan Lee can manage to pop up in all his superhero movies, we're sure Meyer could have spared a day to please her fans. Oh well, maybe we'll see her as a bloodthirsty newborn in Eclipse.

  • New New Moon Scene Descriptions

    Comic-Con 2009: San Diego

The Twilight Saga's New Moon Poster ReleasedFor those Twilighters not able to attend Comic-Con, Rotten Tomatoes has posted an in-depth description of the two New Moon scenes shown at today's movie panel.

The first clip featured Bella (Kristen Stewart), Jacob (Taylor Lautner), an apparition of Edward (Robert Pattinson), and a motorbike.

Suddenly, Bella sees the translucent apparition of Edward, a concerned look on his face, standing in front of her. We can see him, but also see through him. Bella takes off on the bike. As she zooms down the road, Bella gains speed. She zooms by another apparition of Edward, standing in her path. She speeds by another. Losing focus, Bella swerves and falls from the bike, hitting her head on a rock.

Following this, director Chris Weitz unveiled another clip that showed Alice (Ashley Greene), Bella, and a half-naked Edward in Volterra, Italy.

Bella fights her way through the crowd, stopping at the fountain in the middle of the square. In slow motion, she looks up to see Edward, slowly unbuttoning his shirt just moments away from revealing himself in the sunlight. He opens his shirt to expose his pale chest.

So, Twilighters, are you happy with Edward appearing as an apparition? Are you excited to see more Pattinson than you expected? Let us know in the comments.

More mismatched than last year, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner look nothing like their characters, instead choosing to appear like they've been plucked from movie obscurity. KStew's rocker hairdo is so un-Bella like it's hard to focus, Lautner looks like a brunette beefcake, and RPattz seems to have forgotten to pick a shirt the world hasn't seen before. • New Moon Quotes from San Diego Comic-Con

    Comic-Con 2009: San Diego

The Twilight Saga's New Moon Poster ReleasedMovies Online has been busy compiling quotes from today's Comic-Con New Moon press conference, which includes these interesting tidbits:

Robert Pattinson on how Edward will appear in the movie:

Through a kind of process, it's just a voice. It's Edward's voice in the book so I guess it would probably look pretty cheesy if it were just my voice. They've done these hallucinations, kind of semi-visible apparitions.

Taylor Lautner talks about life as a wolf:

I don't know, I thought they did a pretty good job with the wolf transformation. I'm excited that there's werewolves involved now because the werewolves definitely step up the action in the movie. There's double the action in this movie than there was before. There's also a double dynamic. There's not just this romance between a human and a vampire. It's the beginning of a love triangle.

    Kristen Stewart addresses Edward's absence:

It's suggestive. It's how she remembers him. Not necessarily how he actually is. If he doesn't go, you can't miss him. That's what this whole movie's about is that empty, completely dark place where Edward is absent.

    Excited yet? We are.

  • New Moon's Taylor Lautner Talks

Taylor LautnerHave you ever wondered just how much Taylor Lautner has grown since filming wrapped on Twilight? Well, thanks to Interview's new feature with the teen werewolf, you can now find out. When asked about his training regimen, the bulky seventeen-year-old had this to say:

I was in the gym five days a week, two hours a day. At one point, I was going seven days straight. I had put on a lot of weight, and then I started losing it drastically, so I was worried. It turned out I was overworking myself. My trainer told me that I couldn't break a sweat, because I was burning more calories than I was putting on.

  • Behind the Scenes and New Image from New Moon

Bella and Jacob cozy up in New MoonThe LA Times has just released its on-set report from New Moon, which includes a brand new movie image of lovebirds Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner).

They also talk about Robert Pattinson's extra scenes filmed for the movie, which will see him take on a bigger role than in the book. Gone is the wire work and dodgy effects seen in Twilight, and it's now all green screen and digital insertion:

The plan is to digitally insert Pattinson, who plays swoony good guy vampire Edward Cullen, into a scene that was filmed much earlier — one in which he appears as a spectral vision to his costar, Kristen Stewart, cautioning her headstrong character, Bella Swan, against hanging out with some unsavory-looking biker types.

It seems Summit has seen the error of its visual effects ways, and has gone down the more believable route. No doubt fans are praying that when Edward next sparkles, he doesn't sound like Tinkerbell gone wrong.

  • New Moon Stars Talk Key Scenes

B/E TrailerMTV recently spoke to the cast of New Moon, who revealed a few important details about the upcoming movie.

Edward actor Robert Pattinson said of the movie's scale, "I liked doing Twilight, but it felt very much like an indie movie -- and [New Moon] definitely feels like it's a big movie." Mike Welch, the man behind Bella-admirer Mike Newton, talked about the Bella-Jacob-Mike date scene from the book, and attributed its inclusion in the movie to co-stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

The Twilight Saga's New Moon Poster Released
Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner had to lobby to get this one scene in the film that wasn't originally in -- and I am forever indebted to them for that. There's a scene that's in the book, the three-way date between Jacob and Bella and Mike, where Mike ends up getting sick, and it's just very awkward.

Ashley Greene also confirmed Alice's Porsche-stealing scene had been filmed, and said "It was really fun." Twilighters can now relax and stop worrying about director Chris Weitz, as it looks like all their favorite scenes will be included in the movie. As long as he doesn't mess up the much adored semi-proposal, he'll be sure to stay on fans' good sides.

  • Michael Copon on New Moon and Replacing Taylor Lautner

    Naibe Reynoso

Naibe Reynoso is a correspondent for ReelzChannel TV's Movie News, and occasionally shares stories from the field.

During the Ghosts of Girlfriends Past premiere on April 27th, I got a chance to talk to Michael Copon on the red carpet. You may remember him -- he's the guy who was rumored to replace Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in the Twilight sequel New Moon.

I asked him if that was real or rumor, and he told me it was 100% true. It was a tense back-and-forth during casting, but we all know who got the role in the end. Copon told me he really, really wanted to get the role, but that he is happy for Lautner: "There are no hard feelings between Taylor and me -- we are friends."

He also said that he and Lautner have the same talent agent, which according to IMDb is Thor Bradwell from William Morris agency. While it was a win-win for Thor, Copon -- now bitten buy the Twilight bug -- will have to see New Moon in theaters like the rest of us mortals.

I trust there is quite a future for Copon though. Standing on the red carpet with Copon, who was promoting his next movie, Night of the Demons, I realized he is statuesque and very good looking. It's no wonder he was considered for the Jacob Black role.

Lefevre and Greene are both wearing some pretty cool vampire contacts, while Pattinson's hair looks like it needs to grow a few inches to match Edward's trademark long locks that we first saw in Twilight. • Exclusive Twilight and New Moon News from Naibe

    Naibe Reynoso

Naibe Reynoso is a correspondent for ReelzChannel TV's Movie News, and occasionally shares stories from the field.

Fans of director Catherine Hardwicke were happy to know she is releasing a book, Twilight: Director's Notebook: The Story of How We Made the Movie Based on the Novel by Stephenie Meyer. It will be released on March 17 and I have learned that Hardwicke and a surprise Twilight cast member will be appearing at a secret Los Angeles location. Hardwicke will have an opportunity to talk with fans about her Twilight experience. But don't expect her to slam the franchise; the book is published by Little, Brown and Company, the same publisher as the entire Twilight Saga. They've released a new exclusive early image from the book that shows the crucial items director Catherine Hardwicke kept with her at all times during shooting (such a toothbrush!).

So now that most of the New Moon cast has been confirmed, most recently Dakota Fanning in the role of Jane, and with prepping nearly complete, the fast track to filming has begun. In a recent interview, Rachelle Lefevre (who plays the sultry and vengeful vampire Victoria) told me that her buddy Taylor Lautner has definitely pumped up for the role of Jacob. "He's been eating a lot of protein to build his muscles, and it's worked!" she said. Rumors had whirled a few months ago that his role was at risk, and that actor Michael Copon would take his place. While it wasn't meant to be, don't feel bad for Copon. His IMDB page lists 7 movies that will be released in 2009/2010, including Night of the Demons about a group of kids who go to a Halloween party, only to have to face down a group of demons! It's no New Moon, but in this economy, at least he's got work!

  • Being A Twilight Starlet Is Hard

Don't be jealous of Twilight's Nikki Reed as she traipses around Vancouver with Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart preparing to shoot New Moon. It's not easy being (playing) Rosalie Hale. It's hard, very hard. Reed tells MTV that it was excruciating to get her hair blond for the first film. "My hair fell out," she says. "It took 36 hours initially to make me blond, and every other day, I was bleaching my head and my skin."

For New Moon, Reed won't be bleaching (and possibly balding) again. "This time around, we are testing out different wigs and stuff," she says, as part of a larger extreme makeover (and bigger budget) plan by director Chris Weitz. "The goal is for something better, just better, all around better," she says of Weitz's plans, not exactly sounding like the biggest Catherine Hardwicke supporter.

Reed has other reasons (not just possible balding and dark roots), for not wanting to bleach this time. She's hoping to squeeze in shooting a non-Twilight flick, K-11 (also with Kristen Stewart), in between New Moon and Eclipse.

  • Kellan Lutz Spills About Eclipse Director

Talking to MTV recently, Twilight's Kellan Lutz may have said too much about just who will direct Eclipse. Speculation that Drew Barrymore is in the running is ongoing, and we'd love to see the series back in a lady director's hands. But from what Lautner says, it seems a male director was set to do the film and then said unnamed male director fell out.

"I actually heard rumors that they did have a third director, and he fell out, and then they saw more people," Lutz told MTV, "I would say [the name of the third director] if I could remember it. But I know it was a guy." Lutz went on to say "I don't think there's any difference between male or female directors."

Of course, there is a big difference between men and women when it comes to directing: far more films, especially big films, are directed by men than women. Last year, the Los Angeles Times' Patrick Goldstein noted that only two (Mamma Mia! and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2) of the summer's 30 major studio films were directed by women. Whatever happened with Catherine Hardwicke, it can't be ignored that she made a highly successful film. Given Eclipse's subject matter and audience, Summit should really take the opportunity to give the directorial duties to a talented woman director for the third movie.

Taylor LautnerAs he rehearses in Vancouver for New Moon, Twilight's Taylor Lautner is nervous about the fierce competition between his character (Jacob Black) and Robert Pattinson's (Edward Cullen) in the upcoming movie, and well, he just wants to be loved. He even has a message for Pattinson fans: "Don't hate on me too much. I love you, guys."

Lautner, like Kristen Stewart, also thinks that the film version of the fourth and last book in the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn, will get green-lit. "Now that I've seen this kind of passion and dedication in the fans," he says, "I wouldn't see a reason [Breaking Dawn] wouldn't happen." Yeah, neither can we.

  • Twilight's Edi Gathegi Stays Diplomatic

Edi GathegiAs New Moon gets ready to start shooting in the coming weeks, Edi Gathegi, who plays vampire Laurent, obeyed the publicity machine when talking of the sequel's new director and Catherine Hardwicke's departure. He has yet to meet Chris Weitz, who's taking over for Hardwicke, but says, "I'm looking forward to working with Chris. I think he's very capable. He's got that experience with huge pictures, with 'The Golden Compass.' He's going to make it beautiful. I loved 'American Pie,' so his track record is very promising for me. And I heard he's great with actors. I think 'New Moon' is going to be really good." As for working with Hardwicke, he says, "I loved that woman. I think she made the decisions she made for her reasons." Hmm, sadly it seems Summit didn't really love the woman, and it's doubtful the decision to not direct New Moon was really her own.

While Hardwicke isn't on for the sequel, it was recently confirmed that despite the new director, Taylor Lautner would continue in the role of Jacob Black. Gathegi says that fans can expect Lautner to look even more adorable and ripped in the sequel, if that's even possible. He and Lautner worked out in every city on the Twilight tour, and it's paying off for the 16-year-old. "This kid is so strong right now, it is unreal," Gathegi says of his little gym buddy. "He has achieved with his body what people with steroids cannot achieve. The only way I can describe it is that God has given him this time for this growth spurt and this body right now."

  • Taylor Lautner to Howl at the New Moon!

Taylor LautnerTaylor Lautner, the teen heartthrob who played pre-pubescent werewolf Jacob Black in Twilight will indeed be kept on for the sequel New Moon -- this according to StephanieMeyer.com, the author's official website.

Earlier rumors circulated that Summit would cut Lautner loose because of his lanky and youthful look. In New Moon, Jacob undergoes a feral transformation which requires a radical change in the character -- going from fun-loving youngling into hot and hairy hulk, but activist Twilighter's have lobbied hard for the movie company to keep Lautner, and the 16-year-old will have packed on nearly 30 pounds for the part by March -- which is when shooting starts.

"Jacob is a totally different character in New Moon," Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter of both Twilight films, told Entertainment Weekly. "He's a foot taller and huge—and he's supposed to look 25. It's really a question of whether or not the same actor can play the role." Rosenberg is quick to add, however, that "everyone would love to keep him. We all think he's the loveliest person ever."

The news that Summit would make their decision this week was good as gold, and the announcement was made by New Moon director Christopher Weitz:

I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.

The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film. --- Chris Weitz

Then of course Stephenie chimes in with her two cents:

I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon -- what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year. -- Steph

  • Taylor Lautner Fights For New Moon Role

Taylor LautnerIn the face of growing rumors that he will be replaced -- perhaps by Michael Copon -- in the Twilight sequel, Taylor Lautner has bulked up and is fighting back to reprise his role as Jacob Black. He tells MTV that he has put on 19 pounds and will put on ten more to fill out the werewolf role in New Moon. Noting that he hasn't been scratched off the list yet, Lautner is optimistic about his sit-down with director Chris Weitz this Friday to talk it over. And the fans appear to be in his corner on this one, with an MTV poll showing him a 12-1 favorite over all other contenders for the role, including Copon. Given Weitz's evident eagerness to appease the fan base, it looks like he may still have a fighting chance.

  • New Moon Casting News

Micael CoponWith director Chris Weitz now firmly in the director's chair, it may not be the only change that happens to the Twilight sequel New Moon. MTV reports that the role of Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner in Twilight, is up in the air after the Summit Entertainment press release omitted Lautner. Summit told MTV: "The casting decision in regards to the character Jacob Black has yet to be made."

Instead of Lautner, MTV reports that Michael Copon (Scorpion King 2) is being considered for the role, while Ben Barnes (Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) is vying for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire, who plays a critical role in New Moon.

Whoever plays these roles, Weitz will have to decide quickly. Shooting begins in twelve weeks. Check back here for more New Moon casting news.

  • Only 344 Days Until the Next Twilight Movie

Teen WolfIf you've got anything planned for November 20, 2009, cancel it -- that's the day Summit Entertainment plans to release Twilight sequel New Moon. Which means there are only 344 days left to obsess over whether or not the script is ready, who will direct, and will they keep or replace actor Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob, a werewolf-friend of Bella Swan's who gets elevated from minor character to potential love interest in the sequel. According to Entertainment Weekly, Summit's producers are reportedly having second thoughts about the baby-faced actor -- it sounds like they think someone a little brawnier and less cherubic is needed to play a character capable of winning the heart of the bad-boy-loving Bella. Before Summit makes a final decision on this, however, perhaps they should consider the back-catalog of Michael J. Fox and Jason Bateman. If there's one thing we learned from Teen Wolf ($33 million gross) and Teen Wolf Too ($7.8 million gross), it's this: The more petite and smooth-skinned a teen werewolf is, the better the box office.

  • Stewart and Twilight Vamps All Signed for Three Movies

    Twilight Poster

ReelzChannel was the envy of young girls across the nation this weekend, spending an entire Saturday with the cast of Twilight.

Summit Entertainment, which made Twilight, is thrilled with the early hype around the November 21st release, but they are being cautious not to count their chickens before they hatch. Most industry insiders already consider an adaptation of the second book, New Moon, a foregone conclusion, but thus far Summit has only admitted to pre-production work on the script.

During the course of the marathon junket, we had the chance to confirm that each and every character from the book series is signed on to three Twilight movies.

What about Breaking Dawn? Since the book wasn't out when the contracts were drawn up, it was not part of the deal. Translation? If this series gets all the way to part four, Summit is either recasting or Stewart, Pattinson, Lautner, and crew can look forward to a nice, fat raise.
