Exclusive Max Payne Talk with Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis, best known as Jackie Burkhart on That '70s Show and as the voice of Meg Griffin on Family Guy, is working on breaking into feature films and she's got a few upcoming projects that just might get the job done for her.

On April 18th, Kunis will star in Universal's uber-hyped Forgetting Sarah Marshall, in which she plays the object of Peter Bretter's (Jason Segel) post-breakup affection, Rachel Jansen. Kunis is also currently shooting a video game adaptation of Rockstar's Max Payne opposite Mark Wahlberg as the intriguingly-named Mona Sax. The flick is directed by John Moore (The Omen, Flight of the Phoenix) and also co-stars Beau Bridges.

We recently spoke to Mila for an exclusive interview during her promotional tour for Sarah Marshall. The actress says is taking a brief break from the Max Payne production for this current press run. "We're still shooting [Max Payne]," says Kunis. "I finished production yesterday at 6 am ... I have to go back next week and finish shooting."

We grilled Kunis for a bit more info on her hush-hush work on Payne: "I can't really reveal too much," Kunis says of the project. "I play a character named Mona Sax who is based on the video game, but doesn't necessarily come in until [the game] Max Payne 2, if I'm not mistaken. Max Payne loses his wife and goes on this spree to find out why she was murdered. It's kind of lapse of three years and he goes on this mission and his child gets murdered, his wife gets murdered and it's this cop who is distraught and dark and cold and all he wants to do is just figure out why and who. My character -- her sister gets murdered by who she assumes is Max Payne. They bond over the loss of a loved one, not necessarily knowing why or who [the other person is], and they go on this mission together...

Kunis says she has actually gotten the chance to play the Max Payne game a little before jumping into the role. "I am a gamer. I did play Max Payne when it first came out [but] I'm not the best at first-person shooter games like Halo and Max Payne because I have very little hand/eye coordination required for moving up and down and to the side..."

The game itself is a very heavy-handed, R-rated affair which has led gamers to question whether those darker elements will make it to the movie version. "The movie is PG-13," says Kunis. "It's incredibly dark. You still get the gist of it. The only different between R-rated and PG-13 is you might not see as much blood. You might not see blood squirting everywhere, but as far as the sadness and the darkness of it and the distraught [nature] of these human beings is very much captured in the film. It's all unfortunate deaths and it's almost like these [are] two people that are so cold and distant from reality and from life - it's a pretty dark movie, yes."

After Sarah Marshall press and the Max Payne shoot, the actress says she doesn't have her next project set up just yet, but she doesn't seem too worried. "I've still got a little bit more than a month left of Max Payne and it comes out in October, so I think after this I'm going to take a few weeks off and then start doing press for Max Payne."
