The Rock Talks Shazam, Get Smart and more!
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was in Sin City Sunday for a special Cinevegas charity premiere of Get Smart to benefit The Rock Foundation children's charity.
ReelzChannel.com spoke with The Rock about the Vegas premiere, The Rock Foundation and his exciting upcoming project Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam, in which he will be playing villainous Black Adam.
In Get Smart, Johnson plays Agent 23, an ally to Steve Carell's Maxwell Smart. The role gives The Rock a chance to flex his comedic muscles along with his trademark action moves.
"Cinevegas has always done a tremendous job in supporting the film industry and filmmakers and of course supporting Get Smart," Johnson told 
ReelzChannel.com. "It was great for us to partner with them because the support they had for The Rock Foundation was tremendous. We had shot here a couple of weeks ago with a new movie I'm doing [called Race to Witch Mountain] so it's great to come back to Vegas and have all the support we're having."
"The Foundation, we create hope and opportunity in the lives of children all around the world. You know, I was one of those kids [that] got in a lot of trouble. [I] did a lot of things I shouldn't have been doing. I was lucky enough to have had a couple of adults in my life who cared enough about me and saw the potential even when I didn't see it... The Rock Foundation is our way of giving back."
Johnson said making Get Smart was a blast and was all smiles walking the carpet today and discussing the film with industry press, festival-goers and scores of adoring fans. And things must have gone well enough on set,
because Rock is already planning to team up with Get Smart director Pete Segal in the long-gestating superhero movie, Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam. 
"The Shazam movie, we're all very, very excited about it. John August (Big Fish, Charlie's Angels) is writing. He's a great writer. With something like that, it's important, just with the mythology and the history of the character and what that means. So John's got a pretty good handle on that and I know Pete's got a pretty good handle on that and I'm just waiting for the script to come in. And I'm interested in Black Adam," Rock says with a big grin and a brief glimpse of his trademark raised eyebrow.
For those unfamiliar with the comic book character of Shazam, the character originated as Captain Marvel in Fawcett Comics in 1939. He was created by artist C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker. An interesting side note is the fact that Beck based the look of the character on actor Fred MacMurray (Double Indemnity, TV's My Three Sons). DC Comics began publishing the title in the early '70s under the name Shazam!, although the character's name technically remained Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel is traditionally dressed in red tights with a gold lightening bolt across his chest and a short cape. His chief nemesis is Black Adam, whose costume is identical to Marvel's with the exception of black being substituted for red. The Rock is expected to play Adam, although some speculation remains that he will actually wind up portraying Captain Marvel himself.
