Created by the comedic genius of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the original Get Smart TV series aired on NBC and then CBS from 1965 to 1970 as a comic send-up of all the serious, slick, and sophisticated spy series (a la James Bond) that were so popular at the time. It starred Don Adams as Maxwell Smart (aka Agent 86), an impossibly inept secret agent for a U.S. spy organization called CONTROL, and whose perpetual screw-ups were saved by his hot partner, Agent 99. Since Get Smart originated in the days of the Cold War, Agent Smart and Agent 99 were always up against equally bumbling agents from a rival spy agency (KAOS) that originated behind the Iron Curtain.
The fun of the show was watching Smart -- and his slew of silly spy gadgets -- always succeed in getting his man. So how do we think Steve Carell is going to stack up against the original?
Who do you prefer: Adams or Carell? Weigh in below.
