Friday the 13th Poster and New Plot Details
By Jeff Otto
Footage from the new Friday the 13th was screened today at Comic-Con along with an understated, eerie poster highlighting the infamous hockey mask in silhouette. You can see a rough version of the poster to the right here that we were able to get a quick snap shot of.
In the footage screened, a male and female character explore Jason's bedroom at Camp Crystal Lake - probably not the smartest move of their soon to be short lives. They find a decapitated head and then a knife bursts through the floor and cuts the male character's foot. The knife cuts through the floor a few more times and blood flies as he is pulled into the floor. The rest of the footage shows a few gory kill scenes such as Jason smashing through a window and grabbing an unsuspecting victim from behind and Jason impaling a victim on pikes. Of course, there's also the classic Friday moments of teenagers racing through the forest trying to escape from Jason. A cool reveal shot shows Jason donning the hockey mask for what appears to be the very first time. The clip ends with Jason catching up with two teens in the forest and swinging the machete towards them from overhead just before cutting to black. Cheers of approval followed from the Comic-Con faithful.
Producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller were on hand with star Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti and Jason Voorhees himself, Derek Mears.
The producers promised that, although Jason is the primary killer in this new re-imagining, his mother Pamela Voorhees does indeed appear in the movie. Jason's childhood will also be explored "briefly. [But] it's not an origin movie," Fuller said.
Finally, Form and Fuller revealed that they are getting close to a deal to remake A Nightmare on Elm Street. Their next project after Friday the 13th is a remake of Hitchcock's The Birds.
Friday the 13th releases Friday, February 13, 2009.
