Mike Richards: Welcome back to Dailies, on location in San Diego, as we wrap up the big Comic-Con convention. One of the biggest and most anticipated movies here is Watchmen. It's from the very popular graphic novel, and directed by 300's Zack Snyder. Earlier, I had the chance to talk to the cast.

Mike Richards: It had to be weird. You're acting through lights in a motion capture suit.

Billy Crudup: It was definitely one of the most challenging processes I've ever been a part of. I worked out, okay? Spent a lot of time at the gym and turning blue.

Mike Richards: How did you get involved in this movie?

Matthew Goode: I was in the middle of doing, lucky enough for me, I was in the middle of doing Brideshead Revisited with Emma Thompson, and you know I wasn't aware of it at all. Its not something that I grew up with, the graphic novels, and so I just had these 2 scenes sent to me and I was like, "What the hell was this about," you know? Without the rest of the novel its just so bizarre.

Mike Richards: It has to make no sense.

Matthew Goode: It made no sense at all and I ended up auditioning sitting on the toilet in my hotel room cause I had about an hour in between filming. And there was no other place in the hotel, so I just had, like, a white sheet behind me and sitting on the loo reading these lines

Mike Richards: So every audition you should do sitting on the toilet.

Matthew Goode: I need to be sitting on the loo.

Mike Richards: You wanted this role so bad you made your own audition tape. What was on that tape?

Jackie Earle Haley: Well, I just kind of went into the script, and I dissected a few scenes, and I kind of stuck them together, and had a bunch of friends over, and, you know, it was just kind of a simple tape, and it was kind of cheesy, but at the same time, you know, an effective audition tape. And we had a lot of fun doing it and, you know, it worked.

Mike Richards: And when you saw Jackie Earle Haley's video audition he sent in?

Zack Snyder: Awesome. I saw the tape and we've been talking about actually Jackie, I was watching, you know, the Oscars and I actually saw Jackie on the red carpet, and I knew about him, and I was like, "He is a good Rorschach. Look at him! He looks awesome." And then the tape showed up and I said, "OK, you know what? Yeah, it was serendipity." It was weird. Yeah, and I said, "You know what? He's great. I'm going to try to put that on the DVD, the audition tape, cause it's awesome. It's that good."

Mike Richards:Did you know when you got involved with this how big a fan base it had?

Jeffrey Dean Morgan: No, no, I had no idea.

Mike Richards:Should you have rethought that?

Jeffrey Dean Morgan:Probably (laughs).

Mike Richards: You actually got to do the opposite of what everyone else who plays a superhero does. Everybody else will get, like, ripped. You know, it's like a big story about how Toby McGuire got in shape for Spider-Man and Christian Bale packed on thirty pounds of lean muscle. And how put on how much weight?

Patrick Wilson: (laughs) Ahh, probably about twenty. Twenty something.

Mike Richards:That's awesome to be able to play a pudgy superhero.

Mike Richards: Watchmen is in theaters March of next year.
