Mike Richards: What they have is a hysterical stoner movie. Welcome to Dailies, I'm Mike Richards. The action-stoner comedy, Pineapple Express, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco opens today. They moved it from Friday because they didn't want to go up against the opening ceremony of the Olympics. They might be high but they aren't stupid. Rogen, who is known for his comedy, he's done Knocked Up and Superbad. And Franco, well he's more known for his serious roles. You know him from the Spider-Man movies -- all three of them. He's played Spider-Man's friend, Harry, he's a friend then he's an enemy, then he's a friend...anyway. Dailies' Gerrad Hall joins me now. They actually do have some history together.

Gerrad Hall: This movie was a reunion for Rogen and Franco, Mike, having co-starred on the short-lived NBC comedy Freaks & Geeks. I asked them about this re-teaming and set the record straight on what Pineapple Express isn't about.

Gerrad Hall: Well, we should point out, this is not a sequel to The Polar Express...

Seth Rogen: It's not? I thought it was.

Seth Rogen: All that time in mo-cap suits for nothing.

Gerrad Hall: I mean, all these Express movies, Sugarland Express, Spielberg movie, you could've done a sequel to that...

Seth Rogen: It's true. We wanna do a sequel where it's us breaking out of jail called the Midnight Pineapple Express.

Gerrad Hall: Well, now what eight, nine years since you guys last worked together?

Seth Rogen: Yeah, something like that, almost ten years.

James Franco: No, really?

Seth Rogen: Yeah, six, seven...yeah, ten years when we started, yeah.

Gerrad Hall: Did all the old feelings, all the magic came back?

Seth Rogen: It stirred right up. I spent so long packing them away in a little ball, but I saw you, and it just all exploded again.

Gerrad Hall: Getting giddy and running in slow-mo run...

Seth Rogen: Lots of slow motion running, just holding arms and spinning.

James Franco: I've been offered comedy before, but ya know, knowing that Judd and Seth were involved I...finally, ya know, did one just cuz I knew it would be good.

Gerrad Hall: It's a bit of familiar territory for you. So...

James Franco: Yeah, but also I just like the way it works, ya know, there's a lot more kind of freedom, and improvisation, and just room for creativity, and input from everyone. So, it's a good environment.

Gerrad Hall: Well, a lot of talk of uh... unlikely action stars this summer. Some saying you are one. Do you agree with that?

Seth Rogen: Uh...yeah I mean, when I look at me, I don't see a lot of physical activity coming from that, ya know um...you do.

James Franco: I see an action star.

Seth Rogen: Exactly. I mean, its nice, ya know? I mean, to us its all part of the joke. I mean, just uh...ya know, guys who shouldn't be doing these things are the guys who are doing these things, and that's what makes it, ya know, fun to watch.

Gerrad Hall: It turns out that Franco -- the one who had done more action movies... got hurt worse. He hit his head on a bolt holding the padding to a tree that he runs into -- had to get three stitches in his forehead.

Mike Richards: Wow, he was the goblin. Seems like he would have been able to pull it off.

Gerrad Hall: Yeah look for the bandana he's wearing in the movie, that's covering up the stitches.

Mike Richards: Alright.
