Gerrad Hall: Now we last saw Javier Bardem on screen in his Oscar-winning role as a killer in No Country For Old Men. He's now starring in the romantic comedy Vicky Cristina Barcelona which is now in theaters. Bardem plays a passionate Spanish painter heartbroken after a painful split from his wife, and he's trying to pick up the pieces.

Gerrad Hall: Now last year after No Country For Old Men people weren’t really all that eager to speak to you and, you know, being a little scared. Very smart move on your part playing this nice, brooding, sexy man. The women are lining up.

Javier Bardem: But that’s McCarthy’s fault.

Gerrad Hall: Yeah, exactly, and this is Woody Allen’s fault.

Javier Bardem: Yeah, I think he brought the the story. He really brought in a brilliant story about different people with their own problems trying to find the answer of something that is completely impossible to answer. That’s a great story.

Gerrad Hall: Javier Bardem's story is a great one too. A two-time Oscar nominee, one-time winner who's been acting since he was a boy in Spain where his mother, Pilar Bardem, is a famous actress. You could say acting is the family business.

Javier Bardem: Well, the parents and my grandparents were actors and it's been a long long road. Not an easy one, also.

Gerrad Hall: Well, I mean so many people saying so many great things about you and and many many movies that you’ve done, do you think you’re a good actor? Do you still feel like you struggle?

Javier Bardem: No, I don’t think I am. I’m always amazed by the talent of a lot of people when I see them performing. I go, "how how do they do that?" And that’s what keeps me alive and trying to achieve that.

Gerrad Hall: Oh, he's humble. He's a great actor. Now this is the sixth movie Bardem has appeared in with his fellow Spanish acress Penelope Cruz, starting with 1992's Jamon Jamon, that's Ham Ham.
