10. Uncle Buck (1989)
Hughes and the late John Candy worked together on numerous occasions. While not as storied a pairing as say the Burton/Depp partnership, they did manage to make this enjoyable, if formulaic, story about a no-good uncle learning the meaning of love and family. Yes, we did get a little nausea writing that, but the movie’s still worth checking out.

9. Home Alone (1990)
Say what you will about this one, but it is still one of the top grossing movies of all time. How could you not like a movie that features Joe Pesci getting hit in the groin, by a kid no less? Talk about the ultimate childhood fantasy—even Scorcese never had had the balls to do that.

8. Pretty in Pink (1986)
Sure it’s a formulaic “Cinderella” story; sure James Spader was predictably smarmy, but we still ate up every sugar coated spoonful of this Hughes high school flick. As a side note, if Andie had hooked up with Duckie instead of Blane, this one would probably have ranked higher...though on the other hand, maybe Hughes knew what he was doing.

7. Weird Science (1985)
Where else are you going to find Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Downey Jr., Kelly Lebrock and a song by Danny Elfman on the same IMDB page?

6. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
What is it with Hughes and The Holidays? One of the best movie sequels ever, Christmas Vacation makes you wish all family gatherings were this fun...and glad that the Griswalds aren’t your relatives.

5. Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
“Those Aren’t Pillows!” ‘nuff said.

4. National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
Considered by many to be Chevy Chase’s best non-Saturday Night Live work, credit goes to Hughes for creating a vacation so cursed that it’s fun to watch. A pox upon Kenny Loggins for the damn catchy theme song.

3. The Breakfast Club (1985)
Credit goes to this one for all those great life lessons it taught us, such as: Everyone has feelings, you can’t kill yourself with a flare gun, cleavage can be used for lipstick application and dandruff is a suitable substitute for snow on an art piece.

2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
This one almost managed to squeak into the #1 slot. Who didn’t want to have a day off like Ferris’s? A Cubs game, the art museum, lunch at a fancy restaurant AND your best friend taking the fall for the destruction of his Dad’s car even though you were the one who took it out in the first place. Peer pressure has never been so cool.

1. Sixteen Candles (1984)
The movie that started it all: The 80’s Teen Movie Craze, the Brat Pack, Molly Ringwald’s career, Asian stereotypes so funny you forget how offensive they are...
We're gonna miss you, Hughes.
