Awards Watch 07-08

Directors Guild of America Awards
Back in 1948, the President of the Screen Directors Guild, George Marshall, started the award program by giving out awards on a quarterly basis, culminating in a final winner for the entire year. While no director denies that attending four awards shows is more fun than attending just one, today the renamed “Directors Guild of America” has only one awards show annually, but with expanded categories–documentaries, television commercials, and of course, the highest honor - the Lifetime Achievement Award. This year the DGA Awards celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Welcome to the party!

Nominees announced: January 8 th, 2008
Ceremony: January 26th, 2008

Fun Fact
Whichever director takes home the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film may want to get their housekeeper to dust of their mantle for an Oscar. Since 1960, all but five winners of this award have also won the Academy Award for Best Director
