Anthony Minghella died suddenly today in London at the age of 54 after an apparent hemmorhage. The writer/director had entered Charing Cross Hospital last week for a routine surgery of a growth on his neck.
Minghella is best known for his work on such films as The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain and The English Patient, the latter of which earned him a Best Director Oscar in 1997.
