If you live in the New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas or LA metropolitan areas, you will likely have seen some of the stark white signs with black writing that say things like 'You Suck Sarah Marshall' and 'My Mother Always Hated You, Sarah Marshall' that have been adorning billboards, buses, taxis, and bus shelters around town.
These signs are part of Universal's creative marketing campaign for the next Judd Apatow comedy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, about a guy who has a hard time trying to get over his ex.
However, according to an article in today's Los Angeles Times, real Sarah Marshalls across the country are garnering some unwanted attention over the ads. Said one Sarah Marshall from Ft. Worth, Texas, "I got a lot of e-mails and phone calls asking if my boyfriend and I were OK."
For its part, Universal is delighted with the response. "We wanted people to ask the question, 'Who is Sarah Marshall?'" said studio president of marking and distribution Adam Fogelson.
So if you have a relative named Sarah Marshall, you can call off the dogs -- she probably isn't about to be offed by an angry ex boyfriend. And if you want to find out more about the movie, you can get your fill at www.ihatesarahmarshall.com.
