  • Next American Girl Doll Movie to be Based on Julie Albright Doll

Let the sun shine inAt a recent press day for Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas confirmed that there are indeed plans for more American Girl movies in the pipeline.

The next American Girl to see her story make it to film? Julie Albright. "We are developing the Julie character," Goldsmith-Thomas said, "and we're doing her as a musical, as a high school musical."

"We're going to have all those great songs from the '70s," she continued. "Julie: An American Girl Musical. It's in San Francisco."

The movie is just in outline form as of now, so Goldsmith-Thomas was unable to confirm much more about it, but she did say the music will include both original songs written for the movie as well as music from the 1970s, and that they intend to do more open auditions like they did for Kit Kittredge. "Oh, you betcha," she said.

Have auditions for the Julie Albright musical already taken place? How can I find out the information for this movie?

I agree with soraworldseen. I will also take it a step further: I don't think Julie should have been the main character of her books in the first place. Ivy should have been the main character. We already had *TWO* blondes: Kirsten and Kit. Did we really need another one? They also have yet to make an Asian-American girl as the main character of one of the stories.

This is getting atrocious. Why in the world are the girls Mattel added getting the big theatrical releases, while the girls Ms. Rowland added got the small screen treatments? I have no respect for that company anymore. I hope this movie fails miserably.

This is completely a bad idea. First off, the American Girls are known for being authentic. When this is a musical, it'll take the realism from it. Secondly, I don't know if this is a racist thing, but there are other American Girls that deserve a movie before Julie. She has only been here for a year. Th other American Girls such as Kirsten and Addy has been here for countless generations. This seems like it has to do with the fact they are minorities. Are they afraid of minorities or simply hate them themselves. This is ridiculous.
