  • Business Professor Say Stars Don't Matter

The Love GuruS. Abraham Ravid, a professor of finance at Rutgers, has spent the last ten years studying star impact on box office performance. His conclusion: "Star participation has no statistical correlation with the success of a movie, no matter how you define 'a star' or how you define 'success.' " He also adds, "Good screenplays drive good movies." Even so, we're thankful for stars. Can you imagine what TMZ.com and Perezhilton.com would be if all they did was focus on the DUIs, divorces, and rehab stints of screenwriters? They'd be busier, sure, but also much less aesthetically appealing.
