American Idol judge Paula Abdul called in to a radio station yesterday to explain how she ended up doing a cameo for Sacha Baron Cohen's Brüno. The confession didn't come easily. Even though it all occurred over a year ago, she had no idea until just recently exactly what had happened to her.
She had gotten this call telling her that she had been voted Artist of the Year in Germany, and that they wanted to film an interview. When she showed up, things started to get a bit weird. She's greeted by "this Captain Nemo-looking dude with a mohawk," but she just figures that it's going to be like some sort of weird Japanese game show. But there's no furniture and Brüno comes in and offers her a couple of Mexican gardeners to sit on. She refuses but he won't take no for an answer, and pushes her down. And then he kicks one of them and they all fall down.
At this point, Abdul finally decides things have gone too far, and heads out, with Brüno and the camera crew hot on her heels. And she never even did get her award.
Rumor has it that there may be more such celebrity confessions to come, with Ben Affleck and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger among Brüno's possible victims.
