  • The truth, apparently, is still out there

Looks like the long-rumored X Files sequel will finally be headed into production, the Canadian Broadcasting Association reports.

While promoting his new Showtime series Californication at the TCAs, star David Duchovny confirmed the latest rumor, adding that co-star Gillian Anderson is also attached. X Files creators Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz are putting the finishing touches on the script, with Carter looking to direct.

The truth may still be out there, but what about the fans? The first X Files flick came out in 1998, back when Duchovny, Anderson and Carter were all in their prime. Since then, shows like Lost and Heroes have helped fill the void for fans aching for some conspiracy-related drama. Seems like this sequel might be about five years too late.
