  • New G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Poster and Other News

G.I. Joe: Rise of the CobraLast month, the international poster for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra used a fire-and-ice color scheme that said "the Joes are cool and calculated agents of the government" while Cobra is "hot, sexy and dangerous."

The latest poster levels the playing field, putting all the character in the same blue tint but changing their locations. The Cobra characters look like they're living in an aquarium while the Joes tower over France with sweet metal abs on top of their accelerator suits. Oui oui, those are some real American heroes.

In other G.I. Joe-related news, Cobra Commander (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) has come to the defense of director Stephen Sommers, who was reportedly fired from G.I. Joe after some poor test screenings. The story turned out to be false, and Gordon-Levitt shared nothing but positive accolades about Sommers to MTV:

Stephen Sommers is like a big kid. We’d get to set every day and it was like playing with toys except the toys are bigger. No one was more excited about the big toys than he was. He talks real fast and real loud and gets really excited. Who else should direct G.I. Joe but a big kid who loves big toys?

Not everyone would agree. An audience member from a March screening wrote an early review for SlashFilm, saying Paramount should be "embarrassed" by the movie. The reviewer goes on to say that the very popular character of Snake Eyes (Ray Park) is "the best part of the movie." Knowing that could be half the battle to getting G.I. Joe fans into theaters August 7.
