  • The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Will the Movie Beat the Book?

Breaking Dawn movie: will it be better than the bookAfter Robert Pattinson’s announcement that Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in Stephenie Meyer’s ridiculously popular Twilight Saga, will hit the big screen, we got to thinking: Will it make a good movie? And more important, will it turn out better than the book?

Breaking Dawn is very different from the first three novels in the series (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse) and saw numerous mixed reviews during its release week. The millions-strong fan base was divided — everyone either loved it or hated it.

We’ve come up with 10 ways the movie could either rake in major box-office bucks or epically fail in a way not seen since Speed Racer dropped off the face of the planet. Even Pattinson might not be enough to save this one.

      WOW,
That was "QUITE A TAKE" on your opinion's of Breaking Dawn.I usually don't post comment's, but I have to on this one, as I feel "VERY STRONGLY" and I "KNOW" that this book will be the BEST,(book-movie) in the whole series (HAND'S DOWN). It is the one EVERYONE is waiting for and I'm SURE that all the Twillight cast and crew will (tastefully) create this movie to the "BEST OF THEIR ABILITIES"!!!WHICH ARE GREAT !!!
This movie with all it's abundance of PASSION,LOVE and LOYALITY," including,( in your word's)all it's moaning from Edward and lack of violence and baby growing too fast and , oh yes, I'm SURE they WILL make their love scene "ONE TO REMEMBER"!!! In my opinion, this one will make HISTORY !!! this one has EVERYTHING !!! I don't know how it COULD fail. I have read all the book's and I was so taken in with Breaking Dawn, that I couldn't put it down. I LOVED EVERYTHING about it. when I finished it, all I could think about was WOW !!! "HOW IN THE HELL", are they going to put all of this into a movie !!! I can see the rating being a bit of a problem," if they do", but other than that, this is the one that is going to go (through the roof). If you read all the blogs for the fan clubs, this is the one EVERYONE IS WAITING FOR !!! INCLUDING ME !!! This one will, " HAVE IT ALL ". I am not a child. I am in my 40's, and I didn't THINK that I would be interested in the movie (AT ALL). I mean, come on VAMPIRES !!! But I admit it,(I'm HOOKED)!!! I watched the movie on a plane ride, and that was it !!! I bought all the book's and read them all in a week!!!
I think the author who created these character's, is a GENIUS. She has CAPTURED EVERYONE'S ATTENTION (BOTH YOUNG AND OLD), by making them more human with their restraint for human blood and their feeling's for people. BRILLIANT !!!! BRAVO !!! for her and OF COURSE her cast and crew!!! PLEASE keep up the GREAT WORK !!! I REALLY (CAN'T WAIT) TO SEE THIS ONE !!! I will probably be one of the FIRST in line when it comes out.
      SINCERELY;
      A DEVOTED TRUE FAN

I love you. I agree on all your points. This book is terrible, except for Jacob's book, and should NOT be made the way it is. The script will need a major overhaul before this movie will even be watchable.

      5. I would mind if summit just added a little more action with love. like pirates of the carribean. that movie was just an all around good movie. action, comedy and a love story in one. if summit is able to balance of of those elements in this movie with some elements from the book it will defenitely do better than the book.

Ok first i would like to say that i am a fan of the series but im not obsessed. I agree with almost every point made in this article. 1. I do think that the wedding scene was cute but to be completely honest I was really looking forward to a kind of detailed sex scene. I understand that pre-teens will be watching but I've seen some pretty clean movies with just enough sex for us to get the jist that they are getn it. We read the book before breaking dawn and you can understand the sexual tension between the two. and its not like there not married i mean if your going to show your children sex this would be the right order that they should see it in. I mean even the fast and the furious had some intense scenes and it was only PG 13. All im saying is that I dnt want the sex scene to be watered down like some disney movie. this book shows the characters in their most mature level and if your daughter wants to see it they should be mature enough to handle the sex scene. now that's that. 2. the baby was a very interesting and important part of the book. without reneseme the voultri wouldnt have a reason to go and kill the Cullens for "supposedly" turning a child into a vampire. so you cut the baby out you cut the last 10 chapters. 3. i think another thing that they forgot on this list is Kristen Steward. She is an ok actress but I dnt know if she will be able to handle the pregnancy part and the vampire part. I'm not knocking her but Bella sees the world with brand new eyes when she is turned into a vamp...if you have ever seen one kristen steward movie you have seen them all...she doesnt give that much variety in character. 4. The birth scene. yea i was thinkn mayb they wud change the POV back to bella at the moment when her spine breaks. that way the POV will be kind of hazy because she wud be kind out of it and then comeback clear during the burning scene. almost like the scene in twilight right before bella woke up in the hospital.

You have a major freaking problem whoever you are maybe you are not a fan but from a fans point of view u have no idea what u are talking about First of all why you trashing renesmee she is an important part of this saga Second edward suffering makes him loving her even more when she is a vampire Third there doesnt need to be any action there is enough of everything else to make up for it And i agree with the jacob part What do you mean weird much during the garter part of the wedding You probably have not been to a wedding but they do that in actual weddig because you probably live like you are in the 1920 So please THING BEFORE YOU WRITE!!!!!!!!!

honestly when i read breaking dawn all i could think about was how amazing its gonna be when they make a movie out of it...im so excited to see the "battle" and all the other characters that are going to be brought in...im really excited to see nessie and how thats going to be...what is the big deal with the sex scene? like there isnt super graphic stuff on daytime tv...im sure they can make it tasteful without getting into the graphic details..its not like she did in the book...seriously people..im really excited about this movie...just to see how it all ties together...

It's funny because when I was reading the book, i was captivated from page 1. I couldn't believe everything that was going on and was so intrigued to keep turning all 800 pages.

However, after reading this list, I have nothing but to agree with every single comment. I guess I never realized how ridiculous this book really was. And there wasn't any action!! I thought the book ended horribly, because nothing happened. This movie can literally be acted out in 20 minutes. There is definitely going to have to be some serious scene changes for this audience to be enthralled. No one should be upset if the book does not tie in closely to the movie, because it would almost be a shame if it did.

This review has definietly made me rethink my opinion of Breaking Dawn. Thank you for that.

I am totally confident that Breaking Dawn will be AMAZING! As long as they stick to the book, it will be spectacular! The actors in the Twilight series feel just as connected to the books as we are, I know they will not let us down! This movie might even be the best one!

I think everyone is missing the point about the Twilight story. Breaking Dawn will be a challenge to make, but the love story between Edward and Bella has always been the mainstay of the books and the first movie......Jacob is never a real threat to the intensity of Bella's feelings for Edward. The story starts with the angst of the anticipation of reaching for the unattainable......the forbidden love for both of them. It remains through all the books and keeps the reader waiting for the next step in the relationship. The vampire in Twilight is a different breed than any other. I think that Stephanie Meyer has created a brilliant read that has much more depth than her regular reader understands. With the right director, the story of Edward and Bella, with the friendship of Jacob can satisfy the true followers of this story. If you are looking for a violent vampire story......try True Blood on HBO. This is a love and relationship story.

Personal experience...when I recommend the books, everyone is always asking....When does Edward come back? They keep reading until they reach what they call the good parts and then keep going only to see what happens to Edward and Bella

Wow! what is your deal? You listed the YOUR 10 reasons why breaking dawn will fail, well here are MY 10 years it wont!!
      1. The wedding scenes were amazing! it was simple and elegant just the way bella is. no extra time needs to be spent on the wedding because it is not the focus of the book.
      2. Yes it was a bummer that the sex scene was only implied and not detailed ITS A YOUNG ADULT BOOK! the characters may be married but that doesn't mean that stephanie is going to get graphic. Now they can tastefully lead into the sex scenes without actually going graphic.
      3. Jacobs section in the book is not the best part! are you insane. there is no way that a team edward fan is going to switch to team jacob, once your on a team your there for reasons. im a team edward fan and loved him in BD.
      4. while nessie's birth was not normal by any means, so what its fiction who wants normal!?!
5.I can not believe you talked bad about nessie!! i love that character! the idea of
half-vampire half-human children is used in quite alot of literature for your info. meyers is not the first to do it. nessies character fills out the plot and group.
      6. there is more then enough of edward in BD, so what if he is moopy and morose his wife/soul-mate is pregnant with (in his mind) a monster that could kill
her, yeah idk about you but id be pretty upset if i was him.
      7. all those "useless characters" or whatever you called them, served a purpose. they didnt know if the volturi was going to attack them or not so they wanted to be prepared and they stated in the book that they knew the only way that the volturi would stop and listen to them was if the had a large group of witnesses.
8.action is not always the point.
9.i like bella's power, its inventive
10.there doesnt always have to be death in a story.
if you dont like something that is fine, but you dont gotta degrade it.

Oh wow so here is how I reply. I replied at the top to Candee Cullen so I will add more thoughts here.
No part of this book is insignificant. Each part is necssary to understand the rest. The depth SM gives each character and each scene is amazing.
To say that the sex part between Bella and Edward is somewhat abusive or sugestive of that is not completely a false assumption but a completely brainless comment. From the moment Bella tried to seduce Edward in Eclipse, he expressed the danger of it and did not want to even try but because he loved her and because she really wanted this human experience he agreed. I think marrying her was the absolute perfect way first because not only was he old fashioned but he wanted that commitment first.
The fight between the Cullens and their friends I can admit did lack action but vampires use their gifts which are often subtle...Jane plays mind tricks, Zafrina zaps you when she touches you etc. I think seeing that, but played up a bit would make that part of the book come to life. Bella's power gives us good insight as to why as a human her mind could not be read by Edward and Jane's and Aro's power and the rest of them did not work on her because it hinted then she had some sort of shield over her mind. So to have this great gift once becoming a vampire is quite siginificant and needs to be in the movie.
This movie is going to either need to be really long like Lord of the Rings or be a two parter. There is just so much to abosrb and I don't want to miss any of it!

Breaking Dawn was fantastic! From the romantic wedding (not to mention dramatic, when Jacob appears)and honeymoon to the birth of 2 newborns, Renesmee and Bella! In the story, there really was no choice but to make Bella immortal. It wouldn't have worked out right for them otherwise. SMeyer made it so there really wasn't a choice because Bella would have died if not for Edward's venom. Everybody won. Everybody got what they needed and wanted, including Jacob. The Twilight saga is a fantasy mesmerizing readers of all ages into near addiction for its characters and Romeo and Juliet love story. The popularity and addict-like following are true indicators of Stephenie Meyer's good writing and the need for sheer fantasy love. Everyone wants their chivalrous white knight to come and sweep them off their feet!

I couldn't figure out how to comment so I am commenting you in order to do so. I can agree with part of this article but whoever wrote obviously did not fully understand the depth and compexity of the book.
The wedding was not only romantic but it showed the love and committed that Bella and Edward toward another. I was a little disappointed that SM did not elaborate a little more on their first sexual experience with each other. They were each others first and the fact that it was human and vampire made it all the more amazing. While I understand that SM wanted to preserve the integrity of the book it still lacked the details in that area. Now about Renesemee.....wow, I cryed so much during this part. Bella was willing to give up her life, not in the sense of becoming a vampire, but literally die to have this baby she was carrying was not only a huge sacrifice but the pure essence of true love. She hoped for the better outcome but she really did not care as long as the child she conceived with her soul mate survived. That is thr truest of love. Edward I agree had such a smaller inconsequential role from the time they got back from their honeymoon until the baby/vamp was born. I would have loved to see him a bit more supportive and more controlling over Rosalie and her selfish reasons for helping Bella. Jacob only describes the anquish and I know without doubt that Rob Pattinson will do this part brilliantly in the movie. Has any of us ever been in a situation where we would give ourselves over completely for someone else? That is how this book goes....Jacob giving up his life, his pack just to save Bella and then to form the truest of bonds with the Cullen family. The book was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. It was about true love, sacrifice, happiness......each character contributes something, but maninly jacob, edward, and Bella. They each are willing to do whatever to save the other...in the end forming the greatest bond ever, true friendship.

Breaking Dawn was the ultimate fantasy good ending to a Romeo and Juliet-like love story. Everybody got what they wanted. Every fantasy was fulfilled, including Bella being able to return the protection to her family and friends instead of just always receiving it. How could you not like it or want it as a movie! The wedding, the love, the baby, and finally the plain, clumsy Jane turning into the powerful and beautiful vampire. Every fantasy fulfilled, every dream come true. With the ultimate chivalrous, strong, passionate, loving man at her side--forever. I rest my case!

i totally disagree with most of the 10 reasons. here's why:
      1. the wedding is a big part of the movie but i dont think it should be as grand and long as they want it.
      2. the sex scene, i was disappointed that it was implied and not talked about me, but its not like domestic violence or abuse because he wasnt beating her or slapping her around.
      3. Jacobs point of view was ok, it was definatley not the best part. I was an Edward person before reading breaking dawn and I still an Edward person.
      4. Renesmee’s birth was grotesque but very interesting.
      5. it would be hard to make renesmee, but I don’t think she was the annoying character in the book. She was extremely adorable.
      6. There is plenty of Edward.
      7. The characters served a purpose in helping bella discover her powers.
      8. there was a lack of action, but I wouldn’t want any of the vampires to die.
      9. I would rather know that bella has the shield as a power than keep wondering way Edward is never able to hear her.
      10. like I said, I wouldn’t want any of the cullens to die.
Breaking Dawn I don’t think should be PG 13 because it would be a better movie rated R and the book is one of the best in the saga.
