Sam Worthington continues his meteoric rise to fame by replacing Tom Cruise in The Tourist, a remake of the French thriller Anthony Zimmer. Worthington can already be seen in the upcoming Avatar on December 18, Clash of the Titans on March 26, 2010, and recently signed on for the remake of The Candidate.
The Tourist will co-star Charlize Theron and be directed by Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day). Worthington will star as an American tourist in France used by an Interpol Agent (Theron) as bait to trap a criminal who is also her former lover.
The Tourist starts shooting this January, making The Candidate the next next movie Worthington will make. Cruise is skipping out on The Tourist to shoot Wichita, a comedy from director James Mangold and co-starring Cameron Diaz.
