Variety reports that Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) has signed on to direct Thor, the latest Marvel Comics property to make the leap to the big screen. As the Norse god of thunder and lightning, Thor is considered one of the more powerful characters in the Marvel universe, able to best even the mighty Hulk in feats of strength. He's also a member of The Avengers, another Marvel title currently being readied for the big screen.
Movie fans might remember that Vaughn was the original director attached to X-Men: The Last Stand, but bowed out mere weeks before the start of production amidst rumors of creative differences with producers. Vaughn was subsequently replaced by Rush Hour director Brett Ratner.
