  • News from the world of Mike Binder

binderReelzChannel.com got a chance to talk exclusively with Mike Binder (Reign Over Me, The Upside of Anger) and get an update on all the doings in the actor/writer/director's world.

Suffice it to say his life is full of many irons on even more fires. In addition to the upcoming DVD release of Reign Over Me (which was pushed to the fall, Binder hopes, to put some of the actors' performances in the minds of the Motion Picture Academy for Oscar nomination time), he's got several writing projects on the cooker.

First is The Friday Night Knitting Club, which he is adapting from Kate Jacobs' book for Julia Roberts to star in and produce for Universal. The second less known project is called Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln, which he is writing for Disney. As Binder describes it: "The Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield [Illinois] is hit by an electrical storm and Lincoln comes to life. There's a tour guide who basically takes Lincoln on a ride with him back to Washington [D.C.] for school."

But two high-profile writing projects are hardly enough for Binder, who also is releasing his 2001 movie The Search for John Gissing indepedently onto DVD and trying to get two more directing gigs for scripts he's written off the ground.
