Columbia pictures has announced plans to make Empire, a drama starring Will Smith as a global media mogul. It will be directed by Michael Mann (Collateral, Ali).
Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star in Farragut North, a big-screen adaption of Beau Willimon's play about a young communications director for a presidential candidate and the general dirtiness of the political game. Although the play hasn't even gone up on Broadway yet (where Mike Nichols will lkely be directing Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead), the script has been sparking fire in Hollywood since it started making the rounds. George Clooney is in talks to direct.
And finally, it's about time for another Stephen King story to make it to the silver screen, don't you agree? Actor/writer Johnathon Schaech and Richard Chizmar adapted the script for King's story, From a Buick 8, about a boy who becomes obsessed with a vintage Buick stored in the state trooper barracks after his trooper father dies. Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist) is on board to direct.
