Stallone Says Rambo 5 Will Feature "Your Worst Nightmare"

Sylvester StalloneIt was only announced in August that Sylvester Stallone would be returning to star in and direct the fifth installment in the Rambo franchise, so when Stallone recently revealed the plot had changed from rescuing a girl from human traffickers to preventing the creation of super-soldiers, the Internet buzzed with rumors and speculation about what this means for the future of the franchise.

So many comparisons to the plot of the 1992 action movie starring Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme, Universal Soldier, were made that apparently even Stallone could feel the backlash because he picked up the phone to try to set the record straight. In a recent voice message, Stallone said:

It's not a Universal Soldier, it's not me fighting some super-soldier, it's actually a feral beast. It's a thing, it's this amalgamation of fury and intelligence and pure unadulterated rage. It's before men became human. This is when they were still inhuman. And, so, what he confronts is everyone's virtual nightmare ... he's going against a feral beast that has absolute cunning and intelligence and a will to survive that is only matched by Rambo's, and that what makes it uniquely different. It's like man's conscience fighting his dark, dangerous, uncontrollable sub-conscious.

It's your worst nightmare. You're battling your primitive self, which has a lot more cunning and power than than you could have ever imagined."

The locale of Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, initially described as being along the U.S.-Mexico border, has changed to the Pacific Northwest. Filming was expected to begin in the spring and there is no word if the changes in plot and locale will affect the start of production.

Stallone not done with Rambo; teaming with Ah-nold and Bruce?

As ridiculous as the concept of a 60 year-old Rocky and Rambo, you gotta give Sly Stallone credit for returning to what he's good at. He's getting pretty long in the tooth (even with the steroid help), so he might as well cash in while he still can.

ReelzChannel spoke to a high-spirited Sly today in his trademark black t-shirt, busting at the seams of his still rippled 61 year-old biceps. When asked about the new Rambo movie being "one of the most violent movies in years," he was quick to clarify: "Not one of the most violent. The most violent," Stallone said with an ear-to-ear grin while pointing a finger at the journalist.

So this is the end of the Rambo franchise, right? Not so fast according to Sly: "I have a very, very bizarre idea. It's probably so absurd, but it's got to formulate a little bit... If you can find the right formula, almost anything is feasible. It's just coming in there and making the audience go, 'Okay, that's possible...'"

Stallone went on to hint at working with his fellow 80's action heroes in the not-too-distant future: "I always talk to Arnold about it. I say, 'When are you going to get over this job. Let's get back to having some fun!'" (Laughs)

So Rambo, The Terminator and John McClane might just share the screen someday? "I think that Bruce is a possibility," Sly answered with another big grin.

Next Showing: Rambo opens in theaters nationwide January 25, 2008.
