• Beckinsale won't be seen in Underworld 3

  ReelzChannel.com caught up with Kate Beckinsale the other day at the junket for her upcoming indie flick Snow Angels, and she affirmed fanboys fears that she will not be making any appearances in Underworld 3 (the prequel to Underworld that is to be entitled Underworld: Rise of the Lycans).

  Beckinsale said her only involvement with this installment of the franchise is "in a wifely, supportive type way." The actress, who starred in Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, is married to the movies' director, Len Wiseman.

  "They’re shooting right now in New Zealand and my husband is not directing, he’s producing it," Beckinsale continued. "And my ex (Michael Sheen, who plays Lucian in the series) is the lead."

• Underworld 3 gets the go-ahead. Whoop dee do.

  It appears that one of the more unfortunate side effects of the success of the splendid vampire flick 30 Days of Night is a renewed interest in lesser vampire-oriented franchises. Variety reports today that a Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans is officially moving forward, sans the one element that made the previous two Underworld movies tolerable: Kate Beckinsale. Billed as a prequel, the movie's story centers on the origins of the centuries-old battle between Vampires and Werewolves. B-list heavyweights Bill Nighy, Michael Sheen and Rhona Mitra are slated to star. What -- they couldn't get Kevin Sorbo? Pity.
