Donovan's Reef

This film is just fun. Lots of people thought that John Ford was crazy to do a film like Donovan's Reef but this movie grows on you. Jack Warden is a Navy doctor who is now on a south seas island. When a great aunt dies, she leaves the Dedham shipping line to him. Elizabeth Allen is his daughter whom he has never seen, who makes a trip to his island to see if she can prove he wasn't of firm moral fiber which would allow her to challenge his inheritence. Of course, she meets John Wayne and the sparks begin to fly. Excellent performances by Lee Marvin, Dorothy Lamour and a small role by Edgar Buchannan who plays a Boston lawyer. Worth a look.
