Today's an especially great day to be an American, as John Milius's masterpiece of '80s jingoism, Red Dawn, finally gets the Collector's Edition DVD treatment. Who better to stave off a massive Soviet invasion than Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen and C. Thomas Howell? Not to mention a pre-nosejob Jennifer Grey. The Reds never had a chance.
When it opened in 1984, Red Dawn held the dual distinctions of being the first PG-13 movie ever released and setting the Guinness World Record for the highest number of violent acts ever depicted in a film. Let's see the Commies top that.
Also out today on DVD: Sandra Bullock's supernatural thriller Premonition, Sienna Miller's Edie Sedgwick biopic Factory Girl, and the mutant redneck gorefest The Hills Have Eyes 2.

300 continues to rake in the blood-covered dough, landing in first place at the box office for the second consecutive weekend. Although the final reports aren't yet in, early estimates have the Spartan gorefest spearing just over $31 million for the weekend. This puts
300 well over the coveted $100 million domestic mark in just over a week in release.
The
simply awful Wild Hogs continues to take cash from the easily amused, landing in second with an estimated $18.8 million, while Sandra Bullock's desperate
(and poorly reviewed) Premonition placed third with an $18 million take.

For the horror fans we've got
Dead Silence, which was not pre-screened for critics. As such, we have no review for you, but let's be honest. Studios don't generally hide a good movie. It's by the writing and directing team that did the first
Saw (a decent enough and very successful B-horror movie).
But let's get real.
300 is where it's at, sure to cleanup for a second weekend in a row. If you think you're avoiding crowds by waiting a week on this one, be warned. Advance tickets are still a must or you might get stuck watching
Sandra Bullock try to be likable again.
