This week's new releases offer DVD aficionados plenty of options:
Get into the Holiday spirit with Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick in Deck the Halls, gay it up with Adam Sandler and Kevin James in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, or probe our nation's health care maladies with Michael Moore in Sicko.
Our recommendation for this week is a no-brainer: Ratatouille, the latest offering from the dynamic duo of Pixar and director Brad Bird (The Incredibles), is the best-reviewed animated flick of the year and an odds-on favorite to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

The winner of this weekend's box office war is the Adam Sandler-Kevin James comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, about two firemen who pose as a gay couple so they can get domestic partnership health benefits.
Chuck & Larry took in $34.8 million in ticket receipts this weekend, displacing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on just its second weekend in theaters. There has been some speculation that the release of the final book in the Harry Potter series this weekend may have eaten into the movie's earnings, with fans ostensibly staying home to read the long awaited conclusion to Harry's adventures in lieu of seeing the fifth book depicted in the theater.
At $32.2 million for the weekend, Potter did outpace Hairspray, Friday's other big open. Still, Hairspray fared quite well, coming in third at the box office with $27.8 million--making it the biggest box office open for a musical ever.

It's all about alternative lifestyles at the Cineplex this weekend, with Adam Sandler playing it gay in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and John Travolta donning a dress in Hairspray. Do either of them have the stuff to take down Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?
A rundown of our reviews of this weekend's new releases:
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
"Better than I expected it to be...the least painful Adam Sandler comedy since 1998's The Wedding Singer." [Full Review]
Hairspray
"I thought it ran a little long. But my toes still tapped, and the messages are even good ones--sounds like good entertainment to me." [Full Review]
Sunshine
"Intense and enthralling...director Danny Boyle has crafted a different breed of summer thriller that delivers on all levels." [Full Review]
Also opening this weekend: Cashback and Goya's Ghosts.
