You may not recognize actor Doug Jones' name or even his face, but you've most likely seen his work as the "fish man" Abe Sapien in Hellboy or as the far-out surfer from beyond the stars in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Jones, who trained as a mime and a contortionist, got his start doing commercials, including the famous "Mac Tonight" McDonald's ads that ran from 1987 to 1991, and is now the go-to guy for any "bendy" characters. Jones portrayed the creepy Faun in Pan's Labyrinth, will appear as the Ice Cream Man in the upcoming Legion, and is rumored to have a role in The Hobbit.
But, what about the Silver Surfer movie that was supposed to spin off of the Fantastic Four? The latest news hasMichael Green, co-executive producer of Heroes and the co-writer of Green Lantern working on a script aimed to reboot the franchise. In an interview with It's Just Movies, Jones said:
There are still a couple of years left on their option for two more pictures with me, as a three-picture deal is quite standard when starting a franchise-potential character. But with all the "re-boot" talk of the Fantastic Four, I have no idea where that leaves the Silver Surfer-end of things. I would love to re-visit this character. I do love Norrin Radd.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World isn't your typical comic book-turned-movie adaptation. There are no costumes, no super powers, just a slacker anti-hero and his dream girl's seven "evil" ex-boyfriends. Based on the comic by Bryan Lee O'Malley, Pilgrim recently wrapped principal photography. Chris Evans, who plays Lucas Lee in the film, told Collider.com that the experience was "fantastic," if too short, but that working with director Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz) was a unique experience.
I've never felt so secure with a director. He gets his days because, you know again, there's no fat. He's not working anything out in the day. He's done his homework. He's on-set like a machine and I've never seen producers ... give a director so much freedom.
And, speaking of "fantastic," when asked about the rumors that the Fantastic Four franchise might receive a reboot, Evans was not totally against the idea and said that he would be interested in reprising the role of Johnny Storm/Human Torch.

You want to make good products. You want to make good films. I love movies and good movies come from good directors and like I said since there isn't this massive surplus of films out there, if a good director offers you a chance to make a good movie, you take it even if you say well I just played a character like that. Who cares? You're a great director. Scott Pilgrim, I played characters similar to that guy but no f--ing way I'm going to say no to this guy. I'm doing your movie. So if Fantastic Four got rebooted and [The Dark Knight director] Christopher Nolan was going to direct it and said do you want to play Johnny Storm again, I'd be in those blue f--ing tights.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World also stars Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona V. Flowers.

Disney may have purchased Marvel Comics, but Fox still owns the rights to the Fantastic Four movies and is moving ahead with a reboot. Variety reports that Fox has hired Michael Green (Green Lantern) to write the script, while screenwriter-producer Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, Jonah Hex) will produce.
Whether the cast from the two previous Fantastic Four movies will return is unknown. However, earlier this year Chris Evans, who played The Human Torch, declared the franchise "done": "I think if there was talk [about a sequel] I think that I would've heard about it by now." Evans may feel "done" with the Fantastic Four, but Fox may not be done with him.
What Evans may not realize is that if Fox doesn't continue to develop properties like Fantastic Four or Daredevil, the rights to those characters will revert to Marvel Entertainment and, now, Disney as well. And once Disney owns the rights, there's no way Fox would be able to get them back.

Weeks ago, Chris Evans called the Fantastic Four franchise "done," but Evans is only half right. IESB reports that movie studio Fox is considering a reboot of the franchise, just two years removed from the second Fantastic Four movie. This means no Evans or the rest of the cast will be asked back. Fox is planning to have a "less bubble gum" version more like the highly successful Iron Man.
Seems a bit soon to plan a reboot, but after Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer received such poor critical and fan reaction, making a third Fantastic Four movie probably won't give Fox the Iron Man-esque success they're looking for. So rather than hand the Fantastic Four property back to Marvel, who have their own movie studio arm, Fox has to keep developing another Fantastic Four movie. Rebooting this may be all Fox can do to save their stake in the franchise.

With two Fantastic Four movies under his belt as Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch, and the upcoming psychic thriller Push, Chris Evans clearly enjoys playing characters with superpowers, though he admits that may change.
While promoting Push, Evans told JoBlo.com that there's not going to be a Fantastic Four 3: "I think they're done. They've closed the book on that franchise. I think if there was talk I think that I would've heard about it by now."
A Push sequel is more likely. Push co-star Dakota Fanning said "You never know" to the possibility, with Evans adding: "Well said."

Looks like Homer Simpson, the Silver Surfer and others might soon be coming to an iPod near you. London's Financial Times reports today that Fox, the studio behind The Simpsons Movie and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, has struck a deal with Apple to offer customers users the opportunity to rent its movies using the popular iTunes service. No word yet on how much rentals will cost or how long they'll last before expiring. Those and other details of the pact will likely be revealed at the biannual MacWorld expo in San Francisco, which kicks off on January 14th.

Since when is a $32 million opening weekend and a number one ranking at the box office considered a disappointment? That's the question facing the producers of Evan Almighty this morning, as the sequel to Bruce Almighty took in less than half of what its predecessor earned over the same time period four years ago, despite a budget rumored to be over $200 million.
John Cusack's horror flick 1408 proved a pleasant surprise, coming in second with a $20.2 million take, according to boxofficemojo.com, while Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer trailed closely behind at $20.15 million in its second week of release. Rounding out the top five were Ocean's Thirteen and Knocked Up, which earned $11.3 million and $10.6 million, respectively.

As expected, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer dominated the weekend box office, raking in $57 million and placing well ahead of runner-up Ocean's Thirteen, which managed just a $19 million gross in its second week of release, boxofficemojo.com reports.
The weekend's other new release, Nancy Drew, didn't fare nearly as well, limping to a $7 million take and finishing outside of the top five.
Knocked Up continued its strong run, placing third overall with a $14 million tally. Its 26% drop-off was by far the smallest of all major releases.
Rounding out the top five were Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Surf's Up, which took in $12 million and $9 million, respectively.
