Beowulf, available in both standard and extra-bloody unrated editions, leads this week's crop of new DVD releases. Also debuting are the vampires-versus-Alaska horror flick 30 Days of Night, the uproarious black comedy Death at a Funeral, Javier Bardem and Natalie Portman's period piece Goya's Ghosts and Slipstream, the latest directorial effort from Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Our pick for this week is Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited, starring Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson as three brothers who embark on a spiritual expedition across India in the hopes of healing old wounds and finding closure after their father's death. Included on the disc is The Hotel Chevalier, Anderson's splendid Darjeeling prologue, featuring Natalie Portman's now-infamous "nude" scene. Watch it with your friends and enjoy a healthy debate over just what the definition of "nudity" really is.

Critics and Wes Anderson fans who know their way around YouTube know a little something you may not. That's because they have seen Anderson's short, "Hotel Chevalier," which has preceeded press/festival screenings of The Darjeeling Limited (and been available online).
The short, which stars Natalie Portman and Jason Schwartzman, reveals a lot about Schwarztman's character and recurring themes in the full movie. So much so, in fact, that we were wondering why they would show the movie without it.
Well, no need to worry anymore. Fox Searchlight has decided to add "Hotel Chevalier" to the bill; the short will now roll before all all showings of The Darjeeling Limited. Now everyone can be enriched. Good choice, Fox. Bravo to you.

ReelzChannel was able to see an early press screening of Wes Anderson's new movie, The Darjeeling Limited (which is very good) and a short film was shown beforehand. A note was handed out to everyone stating, "A note from the director of this film. There are two parts to The Darjeeling Limited. First, there is a short film which is a separate story from but is slightly related to the main feature. It will not be shown in theatres but instead on the internet and also at film festivals and on the DVD. Our goal is to get every person who goes to the film to see the short first."
The short film was about two lovers played by Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman meeting up in a French hotel room. Jason undresses her and she can be seen from the side in her birthday suit. We all know she exposed some skin in Closer and she apparently does it again in Goya's Ghosts, but putting something like this on the interent right away could spread like wildfire. A smart marketing move by Wes and Fox Searchlight, but how does Natalie feel about that? We've looked for the short already online and can't find it yet, but when we do we'll let you know!
Next Showing: The Darjeeling Limited opens in limited theaters on September 29th.
