  Inspired by journalist Scott Anderson's story "What I Did on my Summer Vacation" for Esquire magazine, The Hunting Party stars Richard Gere as Simon Hunt, a washed up war journalist who reunites with his old cameraman, Duck (Terrence Howard) in Sarajevo for the fifth anniversary of the war in Bosnia. When Simon convinces Duck to help him find Bosnia's most wanted war criminal, the two friends re-unite on a half-crazed, totally dangerous mission that just might succeed, or get them killed, or both.
  
  As impossible as it is to accurately describe the wholly unique tone of writer/director Richard Shepard (The Matador)--black dramedy comes closest--it is also impossible to deny his talent for telling a damn fine story. The Hunting Party is tense, funny, disturbing and touching from moment one, and you know even before the credits that you're in for a cool ride. It makes you want to be a war journalist and a political activist, as well as a Richard Shepard junkie. Just try not to get your mind blown when you discover that most of it is actually true.

Gere earns Top Actor nod from Hollywood Film Fest

The Hollywood Film Festival will honor Richard Gere with its Actor of the Year award at its 11th annual gala, reports the The Hollywood Reporter. Gere, who this year turned in acclaimed performances in two little-seen films, The Hoax and The Hunting Party, will be feted along with Director of the Year Marc Forster (The Kite Runner) at The Beverly Hills Hilton on October 22nd.

The fest, which touts itself as one of the more accurate predictors of Oscar success, will also be honoring Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody and Hairspray star John Travolta, among others.
