Tuesday, January 8
It's quite a busy DVD Tuesday this week, with several major releases making their debuts on home video. Noteable titles include Death Sentence, the suburban dad reveng flick from Saw director James Wan; Dragon Wars (aka D-War), an action fantasy based on Korean legend; Sunshine, the scary, trippy sci-fi flick from 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle; and the evil child creepfest Joshua.
Our pick for the week is the splendid western 3:10 to Yuma, starring Russell Crowe, Christian Bale and Ben Foster.

Thursday, December 13
I'm up and ready to go here at a time where I'm usually fast asleep or, on a particularly eventful night, about to go to bed.
It's 4:11 a.m. here on the West Coast and at approximately 5 a.m. PST/8 a.m. EST the Golden Globe Nominations will be announced at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA where I am currently sitting in my car writing this. I'll be heading inside in a few minutes to enjoy all the hoopla.
Will No Country continue its current strong hold on the Awards season thus far? Will Superbad find Globe love where Oscar will ignore it? All remains to be seen shortly. We'll be reporting back from the Globes later this morning. Stay Tuned!!!
Next Showing: Golden Globe Nominations Are Announced at 5 am PST/8 am EST

At a brief Q&A a few weeks ago, the producers of the upcoming vampire flick 30 Days of Night revealed that they were so impressed with Ben Foster's scene-stealing performance that they added additional scenes to give him more screen time. Playing a crazed stranger who collaborates with the gang of vampires when they attack an isolated Alaska town, Foster was in many ways scarier than the majority of his bloodsucking counterparts.
SPOILER WARNING
Though Foster's character appears to die in the film (and is definitely killed off in the graphic novel upon which it is based), there's a significant likelihood he'll return for a sequel. "We love Ben and we love (Ben's character) The Stranger," 30 Days of Night screenwriter Brian Nelson teased during an exclusive interview today with ReelzChannel.com. "I'll just tantalizingly say it is possible you might see more of The Stranger in the future."
It's welcome news. Such a return would be contingent on Foster's cooperation, of course, and Nelson admitted that he hadn't yet discussed it with the actor. He also declined to state whether The Stranger would return in human or vampire form.
Look for our full interview with Nelson on Wednesday.

Despite mostly negative reviews, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's family comedy The Game Plan reigned supreme at the box office, raking in $22.7 million over the weekend, boxofficemojo.com reports. Jamie Foxx's political thriller The Kingdom came in second with a respectable $17.7 million, while Resident Evil: Extinction grabbed the third spot with an $8 million tally. Rounding out the top five were Good Luck Chuck and 3:10 to Yuma, with grosses of $6.3 million and $4.2 million, respectively.
The big loser of the weekend was Feast of Love, which limped to a lowly $1.8 million gross, despite opening in over 1,000 theaters. Ouch.

Friday, September 7
Just because Lionsgate might not know what they're doing with a September 7th release date doesn't mean you should miss this classic western.
Not a western fan? Forget about that, because even non-fans
of the cowboy genre will find something to like about this exceptional movie. There's nice action and gunfights, great visuals, great acting and macho men for you ladies who are tired of all those metrosexual men at the clubs.
I can't gush any more than I already did in my review, so I'm just telling you to do something novel and see a good movie for once. I'm talking to you, American theater-goer who spent $10 bucks on Norbit, Evan Almighty, Wild Hogs, Ghost Rider, Halloween, Daddy Day Camp or all of the above.
We've also got an entertaining interview up with the stars of 3:10 to Yuma, Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.
Check this movie out or I will hunt you down with my sixgun before having to sit through Norbit 2!

It's NRA week at the Cineplex, with this weekend's two major releases, 3:10 to Yuma and Shoot 'Em Up, both featuring ample amounts of gunplay. Turns out they're both pretty good movies, too -- Yuma is even being touted as the year's first bona fide Oscar contender.
A rundown of our reviews of this weekend's new releases:
3:10 to Yuma
"A modern classic of the genre. From start to end, a breathtakingly captivating piece of cinema in every aspect." [Full Review]
Shoot 'Em Up
"Firmly rooted in the tradition of film noir, with tough guys, deadly bombshells and Raymond Chandler-esque language. Ridiculous, over-the-top, stupid...and still pretty fun."
