It's quite a busy DVD Tuesday this week, with several major releases making their debuts on home video. Noteable titles include Death Sentence, the suburban dad reveng flick from Saw director James Wan; Dragon Wars (aka D-War), an action fantasy based on Korean legend; Sunshine, the scary, trippy sci-fi flick from 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle; and the evil child creepfest Joshua.
Our pick for the week is the splendid western 3:10 to Yuma, starring Russell Crowe, Christian Bale and Ben Foster.

Despite poor critical reviews (currently 23% on Rotten Tomatoes) and mediocre responses from fans, Rob Zombie's Halloween scored at the box office this labor day weekend, taking in $31 million over the 4-day weekend.
Those Superbad boys held strong in second place with $15.6 over the long weekend, bringing their three week total to an impressive $92.4 million.
The critically maligned Balls of Fury opened to $13.8 million which the weekend's other bow, Death Sentence, took in just $5.2 million.

Movie lovers looking to hit the Cineplex this weekend should proceed with caution, as a trio of mediocre flicks arrive in theaters: one unfunny comedy (Balls of Fury) and two unintentionally funny non-comedies (Halloween and Death Sentence). Pick your poison.
A rundown of our reviews of this weekend's new releases:
Halloween
"Zombie’s direction and storytelling are extremely uneven...an utterly pointless endeavor." [Full Review]
Balls of Fury
"All of the funniest moments were in the trailier -- and the trailer wasn't funny." [Full Review]
Death Sentence
"Grows progressively more ridiculous with each successive scene...the funniest unintentional comedy of the year!" [Full Review]
Also opening this weekend: Ladron que Roba a Ladron, The Nines, Self-Medicated.

Well then let this handy rant guide steer you clear of the dog days of summer. The movies at your local theater may suck, but the better choices are out there. You just have to look a little harder for them.
Don't let Mr. Bean take you for a ride! That's a Death Sentence. Halloween doesn't come in August. Your brother Jim is funnier than the Brothers Solomon. The only Fury you'll feel from these Balls is the one brought on by your lighter wallet. The Invasion came and no one noticed. It's less of a War and more of a snore.
Bring on the Dog Days of the movie season!
Next Showing: Plenty of lame movies are now playing at your local theater.
