Today marks the opening day of the 60th annual Cannes Film Festival in France. Actors, directors, and movie moguls will descend upon the French Riviera for days of hobnobbing in the sun. Sounds like LA, non?
Angelina Jolie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Craig, Jude Law, and the cast of Ocean's Thirteen (i.e., George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle) are just a few of the stars expected to be in attendance.
Some of the big movies competing in Cannes this year include A Mighty Heart (the Angelina Jolie/Michael Winterbottom movie about murdered journalist Daniel Pearl), The 11th Hour (Leonardo DiCaprio's ecological documentary), Two-Legged Horse (by Iranian filmmaker Samira Makhmalbaf) and Sicko (Michael Moore's next controverial documentary about the problems in the U.S. healthcare industry).
Tonight, a movie called My Blueberry Nights (directed by Wong Kar-wai, with chanteuse Norah Jones), will be this year's opening film.
