I found this film to be exquisite. The acting was first-rate and the film exuded a deliciously romantic aroma. There were humerous times in the movie also and the protagonist managed to "stay chaste for 50 years" by having sexual liaisons with several young women over the years as he waited for his true love to be freed of her husband, who finally died. There is a wonderful line at the end of the movie, but I won't mention it so as not to ruin the ending. I recommend this film without any reservations.
