  • Bonham Carter in T4?

Helena Bonham CarterHelena Bonham Carter is very into exploring the role of the bad guy (or girl) these days.

After coming off her noteworthy turn as Mrs. Lovett opposite Johnny Depp in Sweeney Todd and a recurring role as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter franchise, Bonham Carter is now in talks to take on the part of the primary villain in Terminator Salvation. It is unknown whether bad Bonham Carter is to be cyborg or human.

The British actress, who got her start as a Merchant Ivory typecast, first went bad in a major box office way in Fight Club and evidently has been exploring her love affair with the dark side ever since.

Next Showing: HBC can next be seen in Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince.

  • Common talks Terminator Four

Los Angeles Film FestivalWe recently got a chance to chat with Common, whose new movie, Wanted, was headlining the LA Film Festival, which is going on this week.

Turns out the hip-hop artist turned actor has even bigger projects up his sleeve, as part of Terminator 4, a.k.a. Terminator Salvation. "I'm playing a character, Barnes, and I'm part of the resistance, which is fighting with John CommonConnor, fighting against the machines to help try to save humanity," he told us.

Common, who was lovely and all smiles, is nothing less than delighted about being part of the movie. "Oh man, it's so exciting," he said. "When I tell people I'm part of Terminator 4, it's like, 'What?!' " And yes, he is a fan of the series. "The first two, I really was overwhelmed by how good they were. I even looked at Arnold Schwarzenegger, like, 'Yeah, I see why people really love Arnold Schwarzenegger,' because he was incredible. He did a great job in that stuff," he gushed. "I really am just honored to be a part of the Terminator franchise and to be working with such talented people."

Common can currently be seen in Wanted, which opens nationwide this weekend.

  • Terminator 4 Teaser Trailer Paired with The Dark Knight

I'm bloody self-aware, mate!In case you needed another reason to rush out to the Cineplex to see The Dark Knight when it debuts on July 18th, Warner Bros. just added a big one.

MTV Movies has learned that the first teaser trailer for Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the latest chapter of the blockbuster franchise starring -- conveniently enough -- Christian Bale, will unspool prior to showings of the highly anticipated sequel to Batman Begins. Director McG is barely a month into the T4 shoot, don't expect to see much in the realm of killer robots and the like from the first trailer -- probably just some ominous voiceover and a few close-up shots of shiny chrome bodyparts.

MTV also got a shot of the first poster for the flick, featuring a sufficiently sinister-looking robot head baring a snaggletooth smile. Apparently, Skynet's latest breed of killer cyborgs are from the UK.

  • Will it be Josh Brolin vs. Christian Bale in Terminator 4?

Josh Brolin, Terminator? With the recent casting of Christian Bale as the emo-punk-turned-leader-of-the-resistance John Connor in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the natural follow-up question arose: Who will play Bale's cyborg stalker in the fourth installment of the blockbuster sci-fi franchise? After all, this ain't no whiny pencil-neck Edward Furlong (or, if you prefer, T3's Nick Stahl) we're talking about; a robot capable of taking down Batman is gonna have to be seriously badass.

With that in mind, Jason Coleman of 213.net prodded T4 director McG for some answers and got this reply:

"It's very difficult to say because it's a decidedly masculine role and I think we're living in a time where a lot of actors are very effeminate and they're sort of skinny, heroin chic and there's really a masculine component to the role. And there's guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don't know if they're exactly right at the end of the day. (Smiles) Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor - we'll see."

No "skinny" or "effeminate" actors? Guess that leaves Ryan Phillippe out of the running.

  • Will Vin Diesel be the next Terminator?

The Pacifier, Vin Diesel's finest hourLike the unstoppable killing machines featured in its films, the Terminator franchise simply refuses to die. If CHUD and Ain't It Cool News are to believed, a fourth chapter in the venerable Sci-fi series is in the works, with McG directing and Vin Diesel possibly starring.

It's the role Diesel was born to play: stilted, robotic movements, little dialogue, lots of flexing. I must say, however, that I'm a little disappointed with Skynet. After the T-100 made its impressive debut, the Terminator product line really went downhill. The liquid metal T-1000 was a flashy bust, and while the T-X was certainly easy on the eyes, its performance in the field was a tad underwhelming. Will the Vin Diesel model halt this disappointing trend? I'm not optimistic, but I'll reserve judgment until I see Terminator 4.

Diesel seems to be emulating the career path of fellow tough guy Arnold Schwarzenegger, albeit in sort of a second-rate, b-list fashion. First there was the Kindergarten Cop re-hash The Pacifier, and now we have this Terminator re-hash. What's next, a run for West Hollywood City Council?

  • Lawyers to determine future of Terminator franchise

The killer cyborgs of T3Looks like the unstoppable killing machines of the Terminator films will be sidelined for quite some time, as their real-life counterparts -- Hollywood attorneys -- do battle a Los Angeles courtroom, with the fate of the somewhat-anticipated fourth Terminator film hanging in the balance.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Halcyon Co., the production company that currently owns the rights to T4, is mired in a lawsuit with MGM, with the studio claiming that it's entitled to "an exclusive, 30-day negotiation for distribution rights to the films in the franchise." Said negotiations were contentious and abortive, prompting the litigation.

This one could take a while. Halcyon is still hoping for a 2009 release of T4, by which time Governor Schwarzenegger could very well be Senator Schwarzenegger.

  • T4 a go, Ah-nold and J-Cam a No

Terminator 4 is coming, like it or not.

Variety is reporting that the men behind the rights to the Terminator franchise, Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar, have sold the rights to a privately funded company named Halcyon, which sounds suspiciously like Cyberdyne to me.

Halcyon Co. is headed by entrepreneurs Victor Kubicek (who looks a little like a young Michael Bay) and Derek Anderson.

Neither James Cameron nor a post-governator Arnold Schwarzenegger will be involved in the project.

Although the script isn't finished and there is no cast, director or start date, the movie is already being slated for a summer 2009 release date.

What little is known about the storyline involves another iteration of John Connor, now in his 30's, leading the resistence against the rise of the machines.
