Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may be one of the most consistently underrated actors working today. While there are certainly more versatile leading men out there, few of them can match The Rock's charisma. Ultimately, it's that charisma that makes the mediocre family flick The Game Plan a watchable movie.
Johnsons stars as Joe Kingman, an arrogant, self-centered NFL quarterback whose superior talents are matched only by his outsized ego. All of that changes, however, when he learns that he's the father of a precocious eight-year-old named Peyton (Madison Pettis).
Following all of the rules of a Disney family flick, The Game Plan is a paint-by-numbers bundle of cliches held aloft only by the outstanding chemistry between Johnson and Pettis. At 110 minutes, it runs a little long for family fare, but it's enjoyable enough to keep you in your seat until the appropriately happy ending arrives.
