Twenty-Third 007 Movie in the Works

James Bond 007Actor Daniel Craig has spilled the news that another chapter in the long-running 007 franchise is on the way. According to Variety, following a performance of A Steady Rain, the play he's currently starring in with Hugh Jackman on Broadway, Craig told a fan that filming of the 23rd 007 movie will begin in late 2010.

Screenwriters Peter Morgan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are currently at work on a script, but no director has been announced. MGM has not commented on Craig's statement, as of yet.

MGM Losing the James Bond Franchise?

James Bond 007Less than a week ago, MGM received a deferment on their outstanding loans to allow them to continue with plans for producing a Guillermo del Toro-led production of The Hobbit. At the time of the announcement, nothing was said about the other properties under MGM's umbrella, such as the 007 franchise, the most valuable one in its library.

Now, it appears that MGM may be forced to sell off the rights to future James Bond movies to generate some much-needed cash. According to We Are Movie Geeks, a "source close to the dealings" claims that MGM has already sold the marketing and distribution rights to 20th Century Fox and that the official announcement will "come out any day now."

Sony, who acquired MGM in 2004, has used Sony Pictures to market and distribute the last two movies, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Prior to this, MGM partnered with Fox on all home video and international marketing.

Clash of the Titans is Going All Bond-y

Louis Letterier's (The Incredible Hulk) remake of The Clash of the Titans is adding some actors to its cast that will be quite familiar to James Bond fans. Casino Royale villain Mads Mikkelson is joining the cast as Draco, a leader of the Praetorian Guard that follows Perseus (played by Terminator Salvation's Sam Worthington) during his quest.

Quantum of Solace's Gemma Atherton will play Io, a part she described as "the coolest" to Emipre. "Io’s not in the original film," Atherton continued. "Perseus falls in love with her and then [Empire censors a "tiny spoiler"]. It’s a really great part.”

While the movie is still a remake of the 1981 original, Atherton claims the script is "very different" and while the story may be similar, the remake is "more about Perseus’ mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus."

Concession Sales Drop in Two Theater Chains

Quantum of SolaceIs the economic meltdown affecting our appetite for ridiculously overpriced stale popcorn? The Hollywood Reporter says yes -- as two theater chain operators are reporting lower concession sales in the third quarter. We, on the other hand, have another take on this story. If theater operators want to increase their concession sales, they need to convince Hollywood to start making movies more appealing to people who like to eat a lot. We're not saying we need a remake of Big Night, Dinner Rush, or any of the many other food flicks that have done anemic box-office over the years -- but would it be so hard to mix a pie fight into Quantum of Solace instead of just another shoot-out?

Besides the improvement in Bond, himself, this latest incarnation of the slick 007 secret agent is bolstered by his credible leading ladies, Eva Green and Olga Kurylenko.

Denise Richard's painful performance as nuclear physicist Christmas Jones in The World Is Not Enough proved that the dapper Bond is better suited to a challenging leading lady who can keep up with him, both physically and mentally.

So which Hollywood actresses fit the bill as future notches on Bond's storied bedpost? Here's a countdown of 10 Women We'd Like to See as Bond Girls.

  • Quantum of Solace's Forster Had 'No Interest' in Directing a Bond Flick

No, that's not the new Blofeld. It's Quantum of Solace director Mar ForsterThe secret to winning over Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, it seems, is to play hard to get. That's what Swiss-bred filmmaker Marc Forster (The Kite Runner, Stranger than Fiction) did when the longtime Bond producers offered him the director's job on Quantum of Solace. "I don't want to do a Bond movie," Forster told the caretakers of the 007 franchise. "I have no interest."

Still, Broccoli and Wilson persisted, and it appears their efforts have paid off. Learn more about the quirky man behind Quantum of Solace's camera in our interview with Marc Forster. Then check out our Olga Kurylenko interview for a revealing chat with the feisty Ukrainian model-turned-actress who plays the newest Bond girl.

  • Daniel Craig Calls for Affirmative Action Pix

Daniel CraigDaniel Craig, currently starring in Quantum of Solace, says the next James Bond should be black. The NY Daily News responds with a list of potential black Bonds -- Jamie Foxx, Taye Diggs, and Lance Reddick among them -- but we have to wonder. Is it really that much of a stretch replacing a handsome, mysterious, super-suave white guy with a handsome, mysterious, super-suave black guy? If you're really going to reimagine the character, why not do so in a genuinely transformative way. Ladies and gentlemen, meet your next James Bond: Al Roker!

    Bond Director Might Die Bad

Die BadOn the heels of Marc Forster's recent announcement that he has turned down a third Bond outing, the Quantum of Solace director is reportedly close to a deal to direct the American remake of Korea's Die Bad (insert Die Hard joke here).

The four short films that made up the Korean feature will be combined into a single drama set in Philadelphia. Writer Brad Ingelsby calls the tale an "epic story of friendship."

The young scribe also has Leonardo DiCaprio and Ridley Scott attached to his original script The Low Dweller and is writing an adaptation of DC Comics' The Sleeper for Warner Bros.

Daniel Craig on the 'Scariest Bit' About Playing Bond

Daniel Craig's version of the 007 gun barrel sequenceWhile the vast majority of James Bond fans warmly embraced 2006's Casino Royale, some were irked that the franchise reboot altered one traditional 007 detail: The signature "gun barrel sequence," in which Bond walks into view, turns abruptly, and fires directly at the camera.

Orthodox Bond fans will be heartened to know that the traditional gun barrel sequence has returned in Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig's sophomore turn as the world-famous secret agent. In a recent interview with ReelzChannel.com, Craig revealed that shooting the brief scene was more challenging than he anticipated:

"Probably that was the scariest bit, if I was being totally honest," Craig told us. "Forget the jumping off buildings and the fires and all that...We did it twice. We did it once and it didn't work, so we did it again. I just thought, it has to be right and it has to be aggressive and it has to work."

Check out our Daniel Craig interview for more interesting tidbits from the Quantum of Solace star.
