Just in time for the May 22nd release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comes the Indy-esque National Treasure: Book of Secrets, the most recent chapter of Nicolas Cage's blockbuster action-adventure saga. Ironically, the plots of both NT2 and Crystal Skull feature prominently the fabled lost City of Gold, aka El Dorado. Check out the cool featurette "Evolution of Golden City" on the Book of Secrets DVD to see how director Jon Turteltaub crafted his vision of the mythical place, then head to the Cineplex to glimpse Spielberg's version.
Also arriving on DVD today are the Happy Madison comedy Strange Wilderness, the Japanese anime flick Vexille and the Richard Gere/Claire Danes thriller The Flock.

Did last summer's blockbuster sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets leave you hungry for more of Nicolas Cage's globetrotting archeological antics? You might have to wait a while for another helping. Said National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub in a recent interview with Cinemablend.com: “I'm guessing that we're a few years away. By the time we come up with a decent idea and develop it into a complicated and intelligent puzzle it's going to be at least 2009. Then to prep it and cast it... it should be three years away.” Those remarkably complex, multi-layered plots don't write themselves, you know. In the interim, those looking for some alternative history can tide themselves over on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Angels & Demons or any of Oliver Stone's upcoming flicks.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets maintained its vice-like grip over the box office, topping the charts for the third straight weekend with a $20.2 million gross, according to boxofficemojo.com. Will Smith's I Am Legend continued its impressive run with a $16.3 million take, barely edging out Juno for second place. Jason Reitman's teen pregnancy comedy raked in $16.2 million in its first weekend in wide release, averaging a whopping $8428 per theater.
Rounding out the top five were Alvin and the Chipmunks and disappointing newcomer One Missed Call, which grossed $16 million and $13.5 million, respectively.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets held its spot atop the box office rankings, raking in $35.6 million over the weekend. Family flick Alvin and the Chipmunks continued its surprisingly strong run, grabbing second place with a $30 million gross. Following close behind was Will Smith's juggernaut I Am Legend, which took in a healthy $27.5 million. Rounding out the top five were Charlie Wilson's War and Juno, which took in $11.8 million and $10.3 million, respectively.

The box office appears poised to finish 2007 on a surprisingly high note, with National Treasure: Book of Secrets leading another strong weekend at the Cineplex.
On the heels of I Am Legend's impressive $76 million debut last week, Nicolas Cage's action/adventure sequel took in $45.5 million -- over $10 million more than its predecessor, 2004's National Treasure, made in its debut. Legend grabbed second place, continuing its impressive run with a $34 million gross in its second week in release, while talking animal comedy Alvin and the Chipmunks placed third with a $29 million take. Rounding out the top five were Charlie Wilson's War and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which took in $9.6 and $9.3 million, respectively.

Though it might sound like some kind of wacky Ben Stiller comedy, Holy Rollers, about a group of Hasidic Jewish youths peddling Ecstasy in mid-'90's Brooklyn, is actually based on a true story.
"I like to call it the Jewish Mean Streets," Rollers star Justin Bartha told ReelzChannel.com last week, referencing Martin Scorsese's gritty 1973 tale. "It's like Jew Streets. Myself and Jesse Eisenberg are gonna play young Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn. If you look at Mean Streets, he'd be the Harvey Keitel character and I would be De Niro."
Holy Rollers will commence shooting next spring with an eye toward a 2009 release. Bartha can next be seen alongside Nicolas Cage, Jon Voight and Diane Kruger in National Treasure: Book of Secrets, which opens tomorrow.

While some dads might cringe at the prospect of having hard-partying Colin Farrell (Miami Vice, Various sex tapes) for a son-in-law, Oscar winner Jon Voight jumped at the chance. In Gavin O'Connor's (Miracle) upcoming crime drama Pride and Glory, the Midnight Cowboy star plays a New York City police chief whose daughter weds a corrupt cop played by Farrell.
In an interview last week with ReelzChannel.com, Voight described Pride and Glory as "a morality piece" and raved about the film's all-star ensemble, which includes Edward Norton and Noah Emmerich.
"It's got a lot of great acting performances, just wonderful performances from wall-to-wall," said Voight. "It reminded me of my days as a New York actor. I felt like I was going home in a sense, to my roots as a New York actor, playing a New York character."
Pride and Glory opens March 14, 2008. Voight can next be seen alongside Nicolas Cage in National Treasure: Book of Secrets, which opens nationwide this Friday.
