In honor of Thanksgiving, let's take a moment to recount the biggest turkeys Hollywood has turned out this year. The biggest losers of 2008, among major U.S. releases:

Babylon A.D. Is "Like a Bad Episode of 24," Says Film's Director

Uh-oh, even my director hates this movieMathieu Kassovitz, it seems, ishis own worst critic. The French actor-director, still perhaps best known asthe nerdy object of Audrey Tautou's affection in Amelie, recently teed off on BabylonA.D., his new sci-fi flick starring Vin Diesel as a futuristic version of Jason Statham's Transporter character:

"I'm very unhappy with thefilm," Kassovitz ranted to AMC. "I never had a chance to do one scenethe way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn'trespected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience."

Kassovitz, who described parts ofthe movie as "like a bad episode of 24," places the blame squarely onthe shoulder of studio backer 20th Century Fox. Fox, ironically, also happensto produce TV's 24.

Look on the bright side, sci-fi fans:Babylon A.D.may not be the second coming of Blade Runner, but it should provide for the best DVDdirector's commentary ever.

Babylon A.D. Trailer Unveiled; Is Vin Diesel Back?

Can't believe I passed on the XXX sequelIt wasn't long ago that Vin Diesel was being touted as the Next Great Action Hero. Then came The Chronicles of Riddick, and suddenly the one-time heir to the Schwarzenegger throne couldn't get arrested.

IGN Movies today debuted the first full-length trailer for Diesel's latest flick, Babylon A.D., and if the movie delivers on the promise of the explosive two-minute clip, the Pacifier star may very well be poised for a comeback. Based upon the novel Babylon Babies by French sci-fi author Maurice Dantec, Babylon A.D. looks like sort of a futuristic version of The Transporter, if the Jason Statham character also had to fend off the apocalypse. Works for me.

Check out the Babylon A.D. trailer in all its HD glory over at IGN Movies.

    Babylon A.D. Being Trimmed?

Reports of major trims to the final cut of the Vin Diesel Movie Babylon A.D. have been widespread of late. The original cut of the movie was apparently more epic in nature coming in around 160 minutes. The new final theatrical cut has been trimmed some 70 minutes to bring it down to a more short attention span-friendly 90 minutes.

For Diesel, this must feel a bit like deja vu after similar cuts greatly altered the Pitch Black sequel Chronicles of Riddick. Let's hope this one receives a warmer reception at the box office.

Babylon A.D. is based on George Dantec's sci-fi novel Babylon Babies. It will be released August 29, 2008.

    Fox to skip Comic-Con

No AVP2 at Comic-ConTwentieth Century Fox has abruptly cancelled its appearance at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, less than a week before the opening of the annual gathering of fanboys from across the world, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The official explanation from studio, which had planned to unveil footage from a variety of upcoming films, including Alien vs. Predator 2, Jumper, Hitman, The Dark is Rising, Babylon A.D. and City of Ember, is that "the clips simply weren't ready." What an odd coincidence, that ALL of the above films would hit such a snag at the same time. Either Fox has some really flaky editors working at its Century City headquarters, or something else is afoot.

Conspiracy theories abound. One of which, courtesy of CHUD, posits that relations between Fox and the Comic-Con folks have been prickly since last year's event, when the studio unspooled some R-rated clips from Borat, violating the convention's strict moratorium on displaying naughty footage. Unable to repair the strained relationship in time for this year’s event, Fox decided to pull the plug rather than risk further controversy.

Fox is supposedly planning some sort of "surprise" for Comic-Con attendees. We'll keep you posted as developments arise.
