While hardcore fans of the Indiana Jones franchise may have been disappointed by elements of the latest chapter in the Steven Spielberg and George Lucas collaboration, there's no doubt that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a colossal hit. With a production budget of $185 million, Skull became a blockbuster its opening weekend — earning over $100 million — and went on to rake in nearly $790 million worldwide.
Manycomplained that the franchise had been reduced by the inclusion ofaliens into the Indy mythos, while others were simply hoping to see Sean Connery reprise his role as Indy's father, Prof. Henry Jones. Connery's character was initially written into the Skull script, but was removed when the Scottish actor refused to appear again. Though it is implied in the fourth chapter of the Indiana Jones series that Indy's dad has passed away, an insider source is claiming that Spielberg and Lucas are working on a script for Indiana Jones 5 that opens the door for Connery to return.
StevenSpielberg has been working on a script with George Lucas and there isan element of the story that could see Sean returning. Anything ispossible in these movies and if Sean wants to return he will becomecentral to the new story.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the much-anticipated and only mildly disappointing return of Harrison Ford's iconic action hero, leads off this week's crop of new DVD releases. We recommend the Blu-ray 2-Disc Special Edition, featuring a gaggle of special features and behind-the-scenes featurettes -- all in sparkling HD. (Don't look for alternate endings or deleted scenes, though; Senor Spielbergo has never been fond of such things.) There are also several exclusive editions, featuring unique items like giant, creepy crystal skull replicas (pictured left), available at retail chains Circuit City, Best Buy, Kmart, Sears, and Trans-World.
Also debuting today on DVD: War Inc., John Cusack's sequel to Grosse Pointe Blank political satire of corporate-managed warfare; Stuck, Stuart Gordon's quirky horror-comedy about a man trapped in a car windshield; and the animated hit The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie.

Hordes of women flocked to the Cineplex over the weekend, driving the Sex and the City movie to a robust $56 million tally and an easy box office victory. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull remained strong, earning $46 million in its second week of release to bring its overall domestic gross to $217 million. The home-invasion horror flick The Strangers landed in third place with a $21 million take, while Iron Man claimed the fourth spot with $14 million. Rounding out the top five was The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, which earned $13 million in its third week in release.

As expected, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull dominated the Memorial Day box office, taking in $126 million over the course of the four-day weekend. The long-awaited fourth chapter of the franchise has now earned $151 million domestically -- the second-best Memorial Day opening of all time, right behind 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian placed a distant second with a weekend tally of $29 million, followed by Iron Man's $26 million gross. The Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz rom-com What Happens in Vegas remained inexplicably strong with an $11 million take, while Speed Racer earned $5 million.

It's Indy Week and ReelzChannel wants to test your Indy IQ. Sample question:
Q. Director Steven Spielberg met his future wife on the set of one of the Indiana Jones movies. What's her name and what character did she play?
A. Karen Allen -- Marion Ravenwood
B. Kate Capshaw -- Wilhelmina "Willie" Scott
C. Cate Blanchett -- Irina Spalko
D. Alison Doody -- Dr. Elsa Schneider
OK. That's one of the easy ones. See how you do on the rest of the questions.

If you're anything like me, driving around town past those looming Sex and the City billboards proclaiming May 30th as the official doomsday for testosterone, believe me, I feel your pain. Guys have been getting away with nodding off on the couch while watching the hapless adventures of Sarah Jessica and co. on HBO for years, we simply won't get out of this one that easily.
You've got 11 days.
Have you made her take you to Iron Man yet? How about a second viewing? Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull starts Thursday. Heck, maybe you're a nerd
who'd like to let your freak flag fly at The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. She owes you that much, right?
It's best to accept that there's simply no getting out of this one. It's going to be awful but at least it's rated-R so, unlike the TBS reruns, there is at least a strong chance of topless action. And let's hope someone besides Kim Cattrall, right? Been there, done that.
Just remember, the time is now. 11 days to force your significant other to sit through every piece of machismo mindless testosterone-flaring, explosion-laden, muscle-flexing, tire-screeching, stuff-blowing-up piece of cinematic fare you can cram in. Just remember I warned you.

The New York Times reports that internet reviews of this summer's most highly anticipated film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, have started to trickle in, and if the anonymous critics on Ain't It Cool News and other fansites are to be believed, the fourth chapter of the iconic action/adventure franchise could very well turn out to be an overhyped disappointment.
Paramount and director Steven Spielberg have taken extraordinary steps to keep Indy 4 under wraps before its Cannes Film Festival debut on May 18th, screening the film only a handful of times for distributors and theater chain executives. While the bad buzz is certainly disconcerting, it's important to note that it's nowhere near Speed Racer levels of negativity. Look for a full ReelzChannel.com Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull review on May 19th.
