• LaBeouf Wrapped on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

  It looks like Shia LaBeouf is done battling giant robots, at least for now.

  The young king of the box office was spotted by paparazzi at LAX looking less than thrilled. Let's hope his dour demeanor is the result of a long flight and intrusive photographers rather than any indication of problems on the Transformers sequel Revenge of the Fallen.

• Bay to Shoot Transformers 2 in IMAX

  Our partners at Variety report that Michael Bay, director of the Transformers sequel Revenge of the Fallen -- slated for release simultaneously in standard and IMAX theaters on June 26, 2009 -- says he will shoot key sequences of the movie using IMAX cameras. • Meet the New and Improved Megatron...We Think

  Fans of the highly anticipated alien robot sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen are abuzz over what are being touted as the first-ever photos of Megatron in his new tank form. The images, apparently taken from some preliminary toy designs, showcase a futuristic vehicle that looks like a cross between the The Dark Knight's Batmobile and a Covenant Wraith from the videogame Halo 3. (It's important to note, however, that this could very well turn out to be an elaborate hoax, as Transformers director Michael Bay is known for playing tricks on the fanboys in the past.)

  You may recall that the mighty Decepticon leader was an "alien jet" when he met his demise at the hands of plucky Shia LaBeouf (something he'll never live down -- I bet Starscream still gives him grief for it) in the first Transformers flick, and while there was never really a doubt that he'd be back for the follow-up, speculation swirled over what shape he would take. The news broke earlier this year that Megatron would be re-born in Transformers 2 as a tank, but visual confirmation could not be attained until today. • New DVD Releases: Married Life, Blu-ray Transformers, and More

  This week's DVD Tuesday is dominated by indie offerings: Rachel McAdams, Pierce Brosnan, and Oscar winner Chris Cooper star in the period drama Married Life; Helen Hunt makes her directorial debut with the romantic dramedy Then She Found Me; and John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott face off in the workplace comedy The Promotion.

  Our DVD pick for the week is Transformers, which finally arrives on Blu-ray today. Now fans can scrutinize every frame of Optimus Prime's transformation in sparkling hi-def while taking advantage of a variety of special features, including a picture-in-picture "heads up display," commentary by director Michael Bay, and a variety of featurettes chronicling the making of the blockbuster film.

  Fans can also go online with Sony's BD Live and access a variety of web-exclusive content. Paramount promises to add Transformers-related goodies on a regular basis (including, we hope, an advanced look at next summer's much-anticipated sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen).

• Megatron Returning as a Tank in Transformers 2

  You can't keep a good Decepticon down, it seems. After suffering a thorough beatdown at the hands of Optimus Prime in last summer's Transformers, the villainous Megatron looked destined for the scrapyard. Not so, says CHUD.com's Devin, who reports today that the sinister Decepticon leader will be back in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen -- in tank form.

  Fans will remember that Megatron originally debuted as a handgun, but was changed to a tank for Hasbro's "Series 2" line of Transformers toys. He transformed into an "alien jet" in Michael Bay's blockbuster flick.

  A more pressing issue facing the producers of Transformers 2 is what form star Shia LaBeouf will take. The troubled actor reportedly mangled his hand in his recent alcohol-related traffic accident, so much so, in fact, that the movie's storyline may have to altered to accommodate the injury.

• Transformers 2 Will Be "Angrier" than the First, Says Tyrese

  

  What does preeminent action director Michael Bay have in store for his follow-up to last year's talking-robot sci-fi smash, Transformers? Tyrese Gibson, who reprises his role of Air Force Tech Sergeant Epps in the much anticipated sequel, told us today at Comic-Con that Transformers 2 (now officially known as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) is "crazier, more angry, (with) bigger explosions and more robots" than its predecessor.

  "The stakes have been brought up to a whole 'nother level," Gibson added. "The conflict between the humans and the Decepticons -- and between the Autobots and the Decepticons -- it's just more angry."

  Gibson still has a few months of shooting left on the Transformers sequel. He can next be seen alongside Jason Statham in the futuristic smash-up Death Race, which opens nationwide on August 22, 2008.

• Transformers 2 to be in 3D?!?

  The internets today are awash in speculation that Transformers 2 director Michael Bay is planning on making his much anticipated sentient robot sequel in sparkling 3D. The rumor caught fire when the folks at Comics2Film (who clearly have too much time on their hands) spotted a blurb in the Dolby News highlighting the film as one of the company's upcoming 3D projects. No official announcement has been made by Bay's camp, however, as the director is currently hard at work populating his ensemble cast with the requisite amount of eye candy.

  If true, the move to 3D is part of an ongoing trend (and a welcome one at that) in the movie industry, as studios look for ways to get people into theaters and off of their illegal-movie-downloading laptops. Hopefully, Mr. Bay also plans on making the story and characters of Transformers 2 multi-dimensional as well.

  Transformers 2 begins shooting in June.

• Writing team assembled for Transformers 2; Bay back on board

  Dreamworks/Paramount is hard at work getting the Transformers sequel up and running, with star Shia LaBeouf, director Michael Bay and exec producer Steven Spielberg already lined up for Transformers 2, and a writing team composed of Ehren Kruger, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci currently in negotiations to pen the script, says the The Hollywood Reporter.

  Most notable is the return of Bay, who had previously indicated that he might pass on the sequel. Fans can now rest assured that Transformers 2 will contain the proper amount of a**-kicking explosions, sweaty hot chicks and inane comic relief sequences.

• Transformers 2

  It's true. The world cannot get enough Transformers.

  After doing nearly $700 million worldwide since it opened last summer, Paramount and DreamWorks have announced plans for a Transformers sequel. Transformers 2 has a tentative release date of June 26, 2009.  And the studios are hoping to lure both director Michael Bay and star Shia LaBeouf back, although nothing is yet set in stone.
