Iron Man earned $101 million over the weekend, shrugging aside naysayers who fretted that the release of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV mind hinder its sales at the box office. Add receipts from Thursday and Jon Favreau's comic book flick is already over $104 million. Not surprisingly, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Marvel has already picked a release date for Iron Man 2: April 30, 2010. Look for an Iron Man 2 teaser trailer sometime next month.
Among movies not named Iron Man, Patrick Dempsey's romantic comedy Made of Honor reigned supreme, earning $15.5 million in its opening weekend. Tina Fey's surrogate mother comedy Baby Mama grabbed the third spot with a $10.3 million take, followed by Forgetting Sarah Marshall at $6.1 million. Rounding out the top five was Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, which earned $6 million in its second week in release.
