Can love survive beyond the grave, or does "'Til' death do us part" rule in the end? That's the central question posed in the romantic comedy Over Her Dead Body, starring Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria Parker.

Longoria plays Kate, a shallow, high-maintenance shrew inexplicably engaged to handsome nice guy Henry (Paul Rudd). On the eve of her wedding day, Kate's in full-on bridezilla mode when, in a delicious bit of ironic foreshadowing, she meets her untimely demise when a massive ice sculpture of an angel falls and crushes her.

Flash forward a year later, and melancholic Henry is still struggling to move on. At his wacky sister's behest, he meets with oddball psychic Ashley (Lake Bell) in the hope of contacting his dead fiancé's spirit, Ghost-style. Kate, meanwhile, is stuck in limbo, apparently lacking the credentials to enter the pearly gates. After unwisely mouthing off to an angel (a real one, not an ice sculpture), she's sent back to earth (in ghost form) to take care of unfinished business. Which, she deduces, is to prevent her beloved Henry from finding new love. When sparks fly between Henry and Ashley, Kate suddenly finds herself involved in an otherworldly love triangle.

The premise of Over Her Dead Body is not altogether unappealing; it's the clumsy execution that sinks this silly, forgettable comedy. At no point is Longoria even remotely likeable, leaving us to wonder why Rudd's character was ever with her in the first place. Meanwhile, the "attraction" between Rudd and Bell feels phony and manufactured.

Supporting players Lindsay Sloane and Jason Biggs are just plain irritating as the wacky sidekicks tasked with providing most of Over Her Dead Body's humor. Both fail to deliver any real laughs, despite employing any number of kooky facial gestures. American Pie alum Biggs is particularly cringeworthy in the role of Bell's apparently gay assistant.

Stuck in the middle of all this mediocrity is poor Paul Rudd, a funny, talented guy who has garnered raves in smaller parts, but can't seem to find the right lead role to showcase his comedic skills. Keep looking, Paul.

This movie looked really cute on the commercials. When I went to see it last weekend, I was not ammused. I kept waiting for the movie to get more exciting. It never did. The few parts they showed on the commercials, were the only good parts in the movie. I was not impressed.

it was really sweet. The story was kind of original. I have to admit I've never seen a movie about haunting and clingy ex-fiances. It's a nice date movie or rainy day film.
