Matthew McConaughey, the Perfect Mother's Day Present

We're not sure how ReelzChannel host Gerrad Hall will ever top this year's Mother's Day present -- he arranged for his mom to interview her all-time favorite actor, Matthew McConaughey. Here's his story:

On April 18th, I flew my Mom, Donna Penick, out to do the interview. We saw The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past the night before, which she LOVED.

As you can imagine, she was incredibly nervous in the hours leading up to the interview. I certainly coached her as much as possible, gave her some pointers on the little things that matter in these interviews, making sure she takes full advantage of the QUICK four minutes she'd have with McConaughey and co-star Jennifer Garner.

Just before the interview, we were waiting outside the room. McConaughey and Garner had taken a quick break ... and we were standing there as McConaughey returned to the room. My mom wouldn't look at him, afraid of her own reaction.

After doing this for nearly three years, it's easy to not get so star-struck (though trust me, there are still actors I will, and do, go a little gaga over). For me, the most special part of this entire thing was seeing a true fan live out her dreams. From the day I got my job at ReelzChannel, meeting Matthew McConaughey has been her only request. I'm happy I was able to make it happen for her. And now she has it on video -- a memory that'll last her a lifetime. Not a bad Mother's Day gift, right? Granted, a month early -- and surely she'll enjoy the flowers I got her just as much.

You can check out the interview below.

Michael Copon on New Moon and Replacing Taylor Lautner

    Naibe Reynoso

Naibe Reynoso is a correspondent for ReelzChannel TV's Movie News, and occasionally shares stories from the field.

During the Ghosts of Girlfriends Past premiere on April 27th, I got a chance to talk to Michael Copon on the red carpet. You may remember him -- he's the guy who was rumored to replace Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in the Twilight sequel New Moon.

I asked him if that was real or rumor, and he told me it was 100% true. It was a tense back-and-forth during casting, but we all know who got the role in the end. Copon told me he really, really wanted to get the role, but that he is happy for Lautner: "There are no hard feelings between Taylor and me -- we are friends."

He also said that he and Lautner have the same talent agent, which according to IMDb is Thor Bradwell from William Morris agency. While it was a win-win for Thor, Copon -- now bitten buy the Twilight bug -- will have to see New Moon in theaters like the rest of us mortals.

I trust there is quite a future for Copon though. Standing on the red carpet with Copon, who was promoting his next movie, Night of the Demons, I realized he is statuesque and very good looking. It's no wonder he was considered for the Jacob Black role.

Next Showing: Night of the Demons releases on October 9th

Matthew McConaughey as Captain America Upgraded to Maybe

Matthew McConaugheyThe rumored choice to play Steve Rogers in the upcoming Joe Johnston directed First Avenger: Captain America, Matthew McConaughey may actually be interested. Long considered to be a rumor along the lines of a Will Smith casting, McConaughey told MTV that playing the superhero "sounds fun," though he also has not seen a script or been made an offer. It's better than what he said last year about the casting rumor: "That’s a super cool name — Captain America.”

McConaughey's Ghosts of Girfriends Past co-star Jennifer Garner, who has played a superhero before in Elektra, agreed. "You would be a great Captain America,” Garner told McConaughey, “You could wear a cape and tights and little pointyshoes."

Jennifer, the superhero you're describing sound more like Robin than Captain America, who wears no cape, boots, and carries a shield. Ring a bell? Red, white, and blue? He has a "super cool" name?

McConaughey to be a busy man

Matthew McConaughey will be taking a break from his busy schedule of displaying his buff man-chest while exercising on the beach to join the cast of a couple of upcoming films.

McConaughey will be starring opposite Jennifer Garner in The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, a Christmas Carol-inspired romantic comedy in which a womanizer is visited by apparitions of girlfriends past, present, and future at his younger brother's wedding. It will be directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Just Like Heaven).

He also will be filling in for Owen Wilson in Tropic Thunder, the Ben Stiller comedy that Wilson had to drop out of due to his recent high-profile hospitalization and suicide attempt.
