Looks like earning $420 million worldwide just isn't good enough in the current economy. With the second installment in the Narnia series, Prince Caspian, earning $325 million less than its predecessor, Walt Disney studios has decided to walk away from the third entry, citing "budgetary and logistical" reasons, and leaving The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to find another studio to help produce and finance.
Should it find someone who wants to produce the massive production, Voyage should arrive in theaters sometime in 2010.

This summer's surprise blockbuster Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy, headlines this week's robust crop of new DVD releases. Also debuting on DVD today: Disney's fantasy epic The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, based on the second chapter of C.S. Lewis' acclaimed book series; the Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly buddy comedy Step Brothers; Ice Cube's inspirational sports movie The Longshots; and the summer sci-fi flop The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

As expected, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull dominated the Memorial Day box office, taking in $126 million over the course of the four-day weekend. The long-awaited fourth chapter of the franchise has now earned $151 million domestically -- the second-best Memorial Day opening of all time, right behind 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian placed a distant second with a weekend tally of $29 million, followed by Iron Man's $26 million gross. The Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz rom-com What Happens in Vegas remained inexplicably strong with an $11 million take, while Speed Racer earned $5 million.

If you're anything like me, driving around town past those looming Sex and the City billboards proclaiming May 30th as the official doomsday for testosterone, believe me, I feel your pain. Guys have been getting away with nodding off on the couch while watching the hapless adventures of Sarah Jessica and co. on HBO for years, we simply won't get out of this one that easily.
You've got 11 days.
Have you made her take you to Iron Man yet? How about a second viewing? Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull starts Thursday. Heck, maybe you're a nerd 
who'd like to let your freak flag fly at The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. She owes you that much, right?
It's best to accept that there's simply no getting out of this one. It's going to be awful but at least it's rated-R so, unlike the TBS reruns, there is at least a strong chance of topless action. And let's hope someone besides Kim Cattrall, right? Been there, done that.
Just remember, the time is now. 11 days to force your significant other to sit through every piece of machismo mindless testosterone-flaring, explosion-laden, muscle-flexing, tire-screeching, stuff-blowing-up piece of cinematic fare you can cram in. Just remember I warned you.

Robert Downey Jr.'s armor-clad superhero Iron Man finally met his match over the weekend, as The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian cruised to an easy victory at the box office, earning $56 million in its debut. Despite generally positive reviews, the highly anticipated sequel failed to match the $65 million opening of its predecessor, 2005's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, leading some industry analysts to label Caspian a disappointment.
Iron Man held strong in its third week in release, claiming second place with a $31 million weekend tally, while What Happens in Vegas took third with $14 million. Rounding out the top five were Speed Racer and Baby Mama, which earned $8 million and $5 million, respectively.
Look for Prince Caspian's box office reign to be short-lived with this week's release of a little movie called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Maybe you've heard about it.
