Any "X-philes" out there?
Watching old episodes to prep for the opening of The X-Files 2: I Want to Believe?
It's been ten years (and $187 million) since the first X-Files movie hit theatres to satisfy "X-obsessed appetites" for all things inexplicable. Ah... remember the Black Oil, The Lone Gunman and that Cigarette Smoking Man? Great for past X-Files, but you don't need to know a damn thing about them for the movie. This one's a stand-alone folks. All you have to be ready for is a twisted kidnapping mystery... and violent, barking dogs that do very bad things for very bad people.
But not Chris Carter's dog! The X-Files creator/director/writer/producer had his self-proclaimed inspiration -- or "muse," as Carter identified him -- in our interview room last weekend. In fact, I almost tripped over him when I walked in (the dog... not Carter). Turns out that Larry -- Carter's gorgeous, black oversized terrier -- is super-mellow and super-lucky. He hangs out everywhere the director goes, whether on a movie set or in a beautiful suite at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. And for good reason: Larry didn't make a single peep. (Which doesn't quite make sense, considering the plot-centric "I hear dogs barking" line in the movie...) But hey, whatever inspires you, Carter! The stories you cook up in that head of yours is beyond genius creativity.
As for the "other" dogs -- the mean ones in the movie -- don't say I didn't warn you.

Quantum of Solace may have a rival for the distinction of "Most Puzzling Sequel Title of 2008." X-Files series creator Chris Carter revealed to the Associated Press today that his heretofore untitled X-Files sequel will henceforth be known as X-Files: I Want to Believe. Not quite as clever or catchy as Live Free or Die Hard, but certainly easier grasp than the upcoming James Bond flick. Not surprisingly, Carter reports that Fox was rather lukewarm toward the title, which he says alludes to the flick's theme of "the difficulties in mediating faith and science."
According to AP, the phrase "I want to believe" was common to the series, even appearing on a poster in Agent Mulder's office. That's all well and good, but does it belong in the title? Discuss.

The new teaser poster (Click on the image to the left for a larger version) for the hotly anticipated X-Files Sequel has made its debut on the interweb, and while the shot of stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson clad in black is certainly very pretty to look at, it also raises a few questions. Chief among them: How are their shadows able to cross in the shape of an X when there's only one source of light, emanating from the bottom left corner? I never got to see much of the original series, so I can't recall whether Scully & Mulder ever faced some physics-defying nemesis. Perhaps one of you more astute X-Philes can help me out...

If you haven't heard by now, there's a bootleg copy of the X-Files sequel movie trailer on the internet. Since we play on the legal side of the fence, we can't link to it. We figure you can Google it for yourself. Um... and we don't mean Google yourself.
Don't worry, when the legal movie trailer is available, we'll have it here.
Next Showing: The X-Files Sequel is scheduled to be in theaters on July 25.

As we reported a few months ago, the long rumored X-Files sequel is under way. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are on board to reprise their roles as Mulder and Scully in a sequel that X-Files creator Chris Carter co-wrote with X-Files writer Frank Spotnitz. Carter will begin shooting in December, but the details of the story are elusive. How fitting.
And there's more in store for the silver screen from the disturbed yet fabulous mind of ex-Python Terry Gilliam. Gilliam has written (with Charles McKeown) and will direct his new fantasy-adventure, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, about a traveling theater troupe with a magical mirror that allows them to control the imagination of audience members. Heath Ledger, who previously worked with Gilliam on the ill-fated Brothers Grimm, will star.
