File this one in the "We'll Believe It When We See It" category, but MarketSaw is saying an "absolutely connected," "trusted source" has let slip that, in addition to re-releasing the entire 6-part Star Wars trilogy in 3-D, George Lucas is planning on creating a new trilogy of Star Wars movies, filmed entirely in 3-D.
The article goes on to claim that Lucas is only interested in producing the trilogy, not directing, and that he may tap his friend Steven Spielberg, or perhaps Francis Ford Coppola, to helm one or all of the films.
Again, we'll believe it when we see it.

The critically maligned CG-animated spinoff Star Wars: The Clone Wars leads this week's crop of new DVD releases. Also debuting on DVD today: Japanese horror legend Takashi Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django, featuring a cameo from Quentin Tarantino; the romantic comedy The Perfect Holiday, starring Gabrielle Union, Morris Chestnut, and Queen Latifah; and country singer Toby Keith's little-seen comedy Beer for My Horses.
Our DVD pick of the week is Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Pick up the Blu-ray version and experience Guillermo del Toro's supernatural action-comedy epic as it was meant to be seen: in sparkling hi-def. Check out the bonus featurette Hellboy: In Service of the Demon for a behind-the-scenes look at how del Toro and his crew created the multitude of monsters that inhabit Hellboy's strange universe. Then you'll understand why Peter Jackson gave him the Hobbit gig.

Star Wars fans (and prettymuch everyone else) may have roundly rejected the recent animated flick StarWars: The Clone Wars, but they've shown plenty of love for thevideogame Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, snapping up overa million copies in its first five days of release. While TFU'sgameplay has received mixed reviews, its storyline, revolving around DarthVader's secret apprentice and the hunt for the last of the Jedi, has beenlauded as the saga's best in over a decade (which, given its recent track record, isn't the toughestaccomplishment).
The L.A. Times' "HeroComplex" blog today posted an interesting article discussing thepossibility of The Force Unleashed being made into a majormotion picture. Given Lucasfilm's penchant for exploiting anything andeverything Star Wars-related to its fullest profit-makingpotential, don't be surprised to see some iteration of the story make the leapto the big screen in the near future. Let's just hope that this time GeorgeLucas resists the urge to add any flamboyantly effeminate Hutts or relentlesslyannoying Padawans to its cast of characters.

It's been a long an arduous decade for the Star Wars faithful. Disappointment upon disappointment with nary a glimmer of hope in that galaxy "Far, far away."
Making fun of Spock ears and William Shatner's terrible acting used to be tough to combat for a Trekkie, but with J.J. Abrams looking to offer Star Trek a respectable reboot, the coolness factor of these mega-popular fan franchises is quickly shifting.
Is Clone Wars the savior the Lucas faithful have been waiting for? Come on, be reasonable. Is it at least decent? Read on through our full Star Wars: The Clone Wars review to find out.

While George Lucas' Star Wars prequels proved successful at the box office, many fans complained that episodes One through Three were too light on action and too heavy on expositional dialogue and political wrangling. Director Dave Filoni promises this won't be the case with Star Wars: The Clone Wars, his animated addition to the fabled sci-fi saga.
"The Clone Wars movie, at the end of the day, has a lot of action," Filoni explained to me today at Comic-Con. "The action sequences kind of tie it all together and the story moves through the big battle scenes. It's very fast-paced. I know the live-action (Star Wars) movies are pretty fast-paced, but the prequels were kind of longer feeling than the old-style movies. There's more of a serialized feeling in A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back...the Clone Wars are a little bit more in that classic sensibility where the story moves quickly, it's faster-paced and the characters kind of develop on the go."
"The movie will surprise (fans) because many, many things blow up," he joked. "We kind of start off in that grand tradition of Star Wars...and then we move on from there and broaden into a whole bunch of different tales."

Lucasfilm today released the first theatrical trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the new 3-D animated flick slated for release on August 15th. Little of the plot is revealed in the two-minute clip, save for a few tidbits about a kidnapping plot involving Jabba the Hutt's son. Which means, of course, that Jabba found a way to procreate -- an unsettling fact that leaves all of us to wonder just how something like that could possibly have occurred. Let's hope that Clone Wars' story, which bridges the gap between episodes II and III of the Star Wars saga, leaves out that unpleasant detail.
The new clip showcases Star Wars: The Clone Wars' interesting animation style and abundance of new characters -- both of which are likely to spur furious speculation in the fanboy community. Are the characters too "video game" in appearance? And just who exactly are all of those folks wielding red lightsabres? New Sith recruits? Check out the Clone Wars trailer over at Yahoo Movies and let us know what you think.

Warner Bros. has announced that the trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars will debut across five Turner Networks simultaneously tomorrow, May 8th at 7:58 pm.
The networks airing the trailer will include Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, CNN and Boomerang. This will be followed by the theatrical debut of the trailer and a new poster (see top left) on May 9th.
