Written by horror afficionados John Strysik (Deathbed) and director Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator), Stuck is a simultaneously grisly
and magnificent thriller about Tom Bardo (Stephen Rea), a homeless man who gets stuck in a car windshield after a hit-and-run accident. Because she's intoxicated when she hits him, nursing home attendant Brandi (Mena Suvari) decides that it's better to hide the car -- and him in it -- in her garage and wait for him to die so she can hide the evidence than to get in trouble for it. Sounds perfectly reasonable, right?
You'd think you couldn't make an entire movie about a guy trying to get himself out of a windshield, but not only can you, it's a good one, too. Stuck is nail-biting, visceral, funny, and riveting, with terrific acting across the board and a script that leap out and shock you again and again. Warning -- it is more than a little bit bloody, though, so perhaps not one for the faint of heart. And although that's not usually my bag, Stuck may have been my favorite movie of the year so far, making me scream with horror and glee the whole way through.
