New Orleanians looking to flee the onslaught of Hurricane Gustav might want to avoid the megaplex this weekend. Debuting in theaters tomorrow is Disaster Movie, the latest wacky comedy from the geniuses who brought you such classic as Meet the Spartans and Epic Movie. Which, in itself, isn't much of big deal -- except for the fact that tomorrow happens to be the third anniversary of the day Hurricane Katrina touched down on the city. Umm...awkward.
Unfortunate oversight or cynical, insensitive marketing gimmick? Perhaps not surprisingly, the folks at the New Orleans
Times-Picayune are leaning towards the latter, and Deadline Hollywood Daily's
blustery Nikki Finke concurs. Personally, I think New Orleans' beleaguered residents might welcome
the hilarious distraction of seeing Hannah Montana crushed by an asteroid, followed quickly by an expertly timed flatulence gag. Who wouldn't?
