Instances of artists finding success in both musicand film are increasingly common these days, but few are as baffling asthe case of Fred Durst. Best-known as the endlessly annoying frontman of LimpBizkit, the '90s "nu metal" band whose hits include the head-banging frat-houseanthem "Nookie," Durst has somehow successfully transitioned to a career as aHollywood director. His first studio effort,The Longshots, an inspirational drama about the first girl ever to play PopWarner football, debuts this Friday.
That's right -- the one-time rocker whose on-stageshtick included climbing out of a giant toilet during performances is nowdirecting family flicks. Perhaps not coincidentally, the film stars another crossover artist and one-time badboy, Ice Cube.
What do the critics (or "haters," as they'reknown in the rap-rock parlance) think of Durst's studio debut? Hard to tell -- it appears thatThe Longshots wasn't screened for critics.
